I now own a 1980 k5 blazer, so excited

Thank you, that is really great information, very helpful. I look up a little about what you said before and learned about the gear ratio, obviously not so much learned but exposed to what it stands for. You seems to be dead on with the inefficiency this match up causes.

Went out to look and took some pictures.
It is leaking as I was told and going to the shop tomorrow. Here are some pictures, the tag on it was mostly worn off. Looks original I guess but here are some pictures if it tells you anything you could share? If not thank you for the help and support you gave, I appreciate it.

I also added some pictures on the connecting parts. Again any advice is helpful and thank you.

Also, I ment to put this in the last reply.

Do you have any idea what this disconnected line is? It's by the transfer case and it looks like the other half goes into the rear axle.

Pick one: I think you're talking about the differential vent tube.
Pick two: that is your speedometer cable that goes in the output of the transfer case. It connects to that little gear reduction unit.

Okay, well I have no speedometer so that makes sense and for pick one it's a vent tube. Okay you have been very helpful. I wish I could return the favor.

Nice k5. I remember seeing for sale, i liked how the tailpipes were routed, looking to do something similar on mine.

Hang around long enough and you will!

1980!! NP205 from the factory, and the "fancy" front end. Looks like the spicer hubs were replaced...cant tell. Good start, could use some bling deletes. I wouldn't worry too much about the transfer case leak, as long as it has fluid, it'll be fine.

Looks like there's a lot of slip yoke sticking out the back of that transfer case tailpiece....

ditch the th350, put in an overdrive and some 4.1 gears . That'll wake it up good

I just picked up a 79 with a sbc 400. Ditching the th350 for a manual o.d. tranny. It has 4.10s already.
A halfway built 400 with a stick shift would be damn near unstoppable.

It spent most of its life in California. A few spots of rust on body from chipped paint, all clean underneath. The roof has cracks in it, seems like fiberglass not metal.
It had a LS 5.3 that got put in 3,000 miles ago. Other specs TH 350 transmission, headers with dual magnaflow, 6 inch lift on 35s, Texas speed 600 lift cam, roller rockers.
Breaks need to be redone. Engine is sluggish, power steering leaking. Going to have it professionally looked at to see what's what. Also, back tailgate is needing love. Window not on the rails, held up by screws.
Had an owner for 20ish years, this last guy had it for 1.5 years and I think he tried to fix basic stuff but seems like he gave up, like with back window.
We will see next week what is going on. Overall I'm so excited to have it and can't wait to get it in its best shape.
Also, just day dreaming about what can be done to just make it more awesome.

Very nice rig. Way jealous of the sliding rear windows. Change all your fluids so you have a starting point for your maintenance history. Then brakes, that will at least get you rolling so you can troubleshoot from there. Sometimes after a rig has sat for awhile the seals get dry and will leak. Sometimes you can get them soft again with use. Blazers and Jimmy's are a blast. Like a Jeep but infinitely better and cooler.

I would drive it some with the TH350 and see how you like it before swapping transmissions.

It's in the shop right now. Needs front bearings, pads and rotors. Service/fluid changes, new plugs and wires, tires balanced.

I'll see what is going on after. He said it looks in good shape from his looking over. So hoping it feels a lot better when it's back and I can actually drive it.
