I Know some of you guys are like this, but I'm not, I am really impartial anymore.
But, I have a very good friend of mine who is a through and through, diehard, anything-else-can-go-die-in-a-hole, Chevy guy.

Today I was at the junkyard with him, looking for some 16 inch, pre-88 6 lug Chevy wheels for my Blazer. I did find a set, but they wanted $120, screw that. Anyway, we are getting ready to leave, and a 92-94, half ton, 4wd Suburban pulling a flatbed with an S10 blazer on it, pulls into the parking lot, and as he is turning, the Suburban's engine lets go, big blue cloud, bad smells, bad noises, really bad sounds, it threw a piston through the block. He scraps the S10 blazer, and we push the Suburban onto his trailer, and it BARELY fit, but it did. And I pull it 40-something miles with my 94 Ford F-250. Now here is where it gets funny, my friend refused to go with me, he said he would not ride in a Ford hauling a Chevy.

He wanted to haul the Burb, but he broke the hitch on his truck. That's a long story.

That is just sad. I have a few friends that are that way but with fords. I always laugh a little when they need my help. Out of the seven trucks I own there are five Dodges, one Ford, and one GMC. They all have their place and each one of them does a paticuliar job really well and other jobs okay. But, they all have their place. I don't care much for Fords but, that does not mean I can simply cut my nose off to spite my face.

I know some people like that. I have a friend that owns a dodge ram, he refused to let me hook my Chevy up to it the other night when he got stuck. Instead of letting me or another buddy that had a ford out there pull him out he waited 3 hours until a friend of his that also drives a dodge got out to where we were to pull him out. Now it is a running joke between us Chevy and ford guys who's truck gets more points between pulling out stuck trucks and going through or over things the other ones can't. But we don't care what truck hooks on to us to get free as long as we can get out of where we are as a group.

Have a friend that has a mid-late 90's Powerstroke that bought a late 70's K30 for parts and was going to tow it back home. The K30 was WAY worn out, the SM465 seriously felt like it was in neutral when it was in gear, I've never been around a 465 that was that worn out :doah: Of course the whole truck was pretty much like that.

The guy talked some crap as they drove away about "how it should be, with a Ford towing a Chevy"

Trans blew up in the Ford (ZF something I think, manual) on the way back and yep, the K30 came off the trailer and the Ford went on it. And the Chevy towed it home without issue, with a beat to s**t K30 that was intended as a parts truck towing said Ford.

Stuff breaks and some parts are better than others, but any of it can and will :doah:

My favorite ford/chevy (I am a ford guy) story happened on a hunting trip.

We were pulling a 30ish foot bumper pull travel trailer with a 97 powerstroke, when the dual mass flywheel took a crap(about 200 miles after leaving home). The other vehicle along for the trip was a mid 80s diesel burb (3.73s and 35s). We unhitched the ford, and did some quick wiring to pull the trailer with the burb.

We got the burb and the trailer hooked up and completed the drive to go hunting. There were times on even really small hills that the burb would be down to 15mph or less and smoking like a mofo.

After we were done hunting, and back to the broken ford, we decided the best thing to do was to push the ford (with the burb, towing the trailer) the 50 or 60 miles back to the next major town, on the interstate.
A friend that was following took a picture from behind, and all you could see was a black cloud for a good couple hundred yards.

It was pretty funny the looks on peoples faces when they passed on the interstate, but they were even better as the whole works made its way through town to find a welding shop.

Should have made him go or un-hitch the trailer :woot:

Well all that would of done is piss off the suburban guy, we and my friend were at the junkyard, when the suburban arrived, and blew up.

He tells me he sees tons of Ford guys like this, but only know one guy like that, but he doesn't go around trying to rub his "awesomeness" on everybody. And actually will sit down and listen to you, and can have a good conversation about engines, rear ends, etc.

But I can name atleast 5 GM guys who don't do that, and instead say stuff like "my 300,000 mile K1500 can kick the shat out of your 150,000 mile 03 7.3 Powerstroke"

I own a Ford, 2 Chevys, a Cummins Dodge, and a Jeep. So, I can say I'm Impartial, but for some reason everybody seems to think that I'm a Ford guy, and anytime I say anything good about the old F250, I get responses like "lets hook up motherfocker!" and "I've already won, Mine's got a bowtie!"

Don't get me wrong, I grew up with GM's, and if I had to, I'd say GM is my favorite, but God do I get tired of Chevy people. I really hope there are some GM guys who are like my Fordy friend.

That's epic! I'm amazed that diesel burb managed to do that!

As for brand loyalty, I have almost none. I lean towards GM for older stuff because I'm most familiar with it and have lots of GM parts around.

We have a Dodge Durango, a '83 GMC pick-up, a '90 K5, and my current DD a '96 BMW 318is.

I have a buddy who waited 4 hours in a snowstorm because he would rather wait 4 hours than have me come and get him. I drive a Chevy his buddy drives a Ford.

Told me my truck couldn't tow his it was too weak. I will admit it was just a blazer with a small block, he had a crew cab powerstroke, but it was only 10 miles.

To make a long story short I know the guy who was gonna get him. Neither his Powerstroke or his Bronco would start LOL so I went with my buddy in a Chevy to go get him.

I laughed so hard when we got there. Actually I couldn't stop laughing the whole time.

I know guys that are so brand loyal they do stupid stuff like that. I like GM stuff better but there are Fords pickups out there I like and cars for that matter, for old cars I am pretty much a mopar guy

Lets see if he changes his mind when the zombies are coming for him. Bet he'll jump in that Chevy real quick.

When I was much younger I was a die hard Chevy guy. Later in life I started working in construction with heavy equipment and learned that the Cummins engine was a super work horse. In the company we had some of each, duramax, cummins, and power strokes. When it came to heavy hauling the Cummins was always the truck of choice. Eventually all the trucks were replaced with Cummins powered Dodge trucks. From then on I have been a Dodge man. However, the Dodge trucks from the 70's and 80's are almost mirrors of the GM trucks of the same era. I will go on record that I would be hard pressed to find another truck that works as hard as my tow rig.

I do own a ford and one of the best trucks I have ever owned was an old 1969 Ford F-250 high boy. Great truck. Always ran, always started easily, never failed me or left me walking. I would love to have that truck back. The current GMC that I have is going to be a long hard road to rebuilding. But, isn't that why we are on this forum? For the love and enjoyment of GM trucks of years gone by?

I've had a bit of everything-Ford, Chevy, current daily truck is a Quad Cab Dodge. When it came time for a wheeling rig I really wanted to do a Samurai, maybe a Toyota. I was convinced to go with the Chevy mainly because I got the following lecture from the Nebraska Hubcap Militia:

"Buy whatever you want but realize the rest of us are in square bodies. WHEN you break the chance is much better that we will have parts and your trip won't be ruined. When you break your Toy or Sami you are on the trailer for the rest of the weekend."

Made the decision easy for me. And the right truck came up for sale locally.

I need friends like that. NO ONE I wheel with has a full size truck. All jeeps and toyotas :(

Same situation here everyone has a jeep, people are amazed the stuff my truck goes through. I have the "tree kisses" to show for it. To me it's not the vehicle its the drivers mentality. I even did some mild wheeling with a Subaru once. He never came back..something about a front bumper and approach angle. :D
