Been looking for a D60 front and a 14b ff rear for awhile now, hitting the yards 1 or 2 x a week with no luck on the D60 until today.....Craigslist is the $h1t! Just got home from a 200 mile roundtrip with a '82 GMC K3500.

Has:

D60 front with 4.10 BOM= 610159 1
14b ff rear with open 4.10
TH400 with 203
Late model 454 bb.
Hydroboost

Looks like I'll be having a busy weekend as well. Now..........what to do with the TH350 I just had rebuilt? Also have the 205 that just went through a master rebuild, too bad I didn't upgrade the 27 spline input while I had it apart :doah:. TH400, 203/205 doubler in the works for me. Not sure what I'll be doing with the 454 yet.

Oh yeah, almost forgot to mention what I paid for all this...........$900. Glad I held out on those Craigslist ads for $1200 for a D60.

Anymore, at least around here, that is the way to go. Buy the whole truck. A lot of people have no idea that the D60 is worth anything let alone that 454 or rear end. They just figure it is old and tired so sell it cheap.

Yep, was a project they lost interest in, he wasn't into 4wd and had 3 other drag projects going on. Was too dark for pics last night...going to get some now. Truck originally had a diesel in it but that and the rest of the drivetrain were in the process of being replaced.

How does that truck have a 203?

Did someone swap it in there?

'79 was the last year for a 203, so yours should have had the 205.

Was a diesel from the factory, previous owner put a different th400 with 203 in it along with the later model 454.

pics are here!

nice score...

You have an Advance Adapter on there. It has the 1/2" plate that has that adapted the th400 6 bolt pattern the th350 four bolt pattern. Usually that kit changes the th400 output to a 27 output.
You probably could unbolt that 203 and bolt your 205 to the back of the th400.

I bought my 86 K5 for $400 and drove it home as well, put about $1000 in it and it is now at my brothers in N.E. Utah, he just called me to let me know it was doing great driving the trails while hunting.

I started to count the splines on the back of the th400 and lost count so I said screw it, it was getting dark anyway. The input shaft of the 203 is brand spanking new, someone did some recent work on it.

So I pulled the motor, trans, case today and started to clean them up.......

the body on that thing is sweet too. if your gonna let it go put the axles out of what ever your swapping em to on it and let a square body enthusiast buy the body to fix it up. Dont take it to the crusher please:eek1:

x's a million

I would love to have that truck as a roller to swap my 82's parts onto.

Get a sharpie, mark one spline. That is spline zero. Count ten, mark the tenth spline, count ten, mark till you go all the way around. The "zero" spline become the final spline. That is your spline count. I usually counts in two with smaller marks that way if I make a mistake, it is easily spotted.

When I worked nights, I had to double check the first article off the gear cutter. It get real easy to get lost counting 153 teeth. If you mess up, you have to start over.

Well, looks can be deceiving...this thing is pretty much made of bondo! Someone cut a sunroof into it then someone else came behind and patched it, looks like they poured the bondo on the roof. The bed and fenders are full of it too and they didn't keep the lines straight at all. The previous owner has a friend that owns a body shop so I'm pretty sure they did a quick spray on it. Too bad, I was actually considering putting this cab on my 74 but once I saw the roof decided not to.

The axles these are replacing on the '74 are 12b rear and D44 front, both are going in the 86 K5 to replace both the 10 bolts. I have a friend that owns 2 parts yards and he's going to give me 2 axles to bolt in and I will take whats left to him so others can pull the remaining square body stuff.
