before asking this question but I'm soo pumped that I can't wait to start getting opinions. I have the chance to get any GM crate engine from their high performance catalogue for cost!

So I'm thinking 383? TBI, and longevity. Any thoughts out there?

i'm betting that "cost" is at least a couple hundred dollars over what dealer cost actually is. i'd almost bet that www.GMPartsDirect.com is cheaper. they ALWAYS beat dealer cost. has to do with the volume they buy, GM cuts them a better deal on parts.

Keeping in mind that I just found this info out this afternoon and haven't done any research, seeing as I am in Canada I'm thinking the few hundred bucks would be eaten up quickly by shipping and duties.

502 mmmmmm. Gas prices, not so much!

Ramjet 350... the one that comes complete with the entire FI system...

Is your truck already set up for fuel injection? Either way, I would go with a roller motor if the money is there. 383 would be nice, but a 350 would suit me fine. Likewise FI would be nice too, but I could live without it.

Actually I'm just looking for a new truck right now. The one that has my attention is not TBI. Should that be a consideration?

Stock TBI will starve the motor if you go too high hp, but you can do some mods to get about 330-350hp out of the SBC TBI without getting too lean. This equals more $$. To some it's worth the extra $, to some it's not. Search some threads. Awhile ago, when I was going to build up my burb I did alot of research and had decided on an HT383 w/TBI, but the upgraded version with all the goodies from the turbocity.com. There's also alot of extra stuff when you go TBI/Vortec heads, but if that's what you want it's worth it, IMO. If you decide to go that way you can check out the list of parts I was planning to use here: '91 Burb Engine Build-up
I could also dig up the names of the guys that actually completed the swap, if you decide to go that route.
