I smoked my first 14bff

I was driving my k30 home from work last night..about 65 mph...
And my 14bff started squeeling...I cut my speed to 55...and tried to make-it home.
5 minutes later...I heard a loud bang...
I pulled the rig over..and took a look...
Gear lube was gushing out the input...smoking like crazy. :mad: :mad:

After seeing that mess...
I jumped back in the rig and road the burm for a while...found a side road..and made it home. :o

It took about 3 hours before I could pull the cover..that sucker was so hot. :crazy:

I'll have some pics of my pretty blue gears tonight. :o

I'm just lucky...that sucker didn't lock-up on the freeway... :crazy:

All the local's know I'm a d60 and 14bff whore...
so...they bring one by every so often...
One of my buds dropped one off last friday....3.73's though.

cant believe a 14 FF broke liek that, thought only the 1/2 tons and 14 SF's and the fords and dana's broke like that

If someone ever drops off a s.f.14b out of 88-99 GM six lug with 3.73 and you don't need it, let me know, I am wanting to upgrade my 10 bolt in my 98, I'll come and make it worth your while. I've search indy pretty well, none to be found but they can ship it in for about $700 bucks :confused:
 
Yes, Jerry is definately a 1 ton whore! ;) :thumb: And he's not lying when he says he has one at home on the shelf! :haha:

That sucks man..... THink it hurt the housing at all getting that hot? Waht ratio do you need? I have some 4.10's sitting on my shelf..(which is tiny compared to yours...) ;)
 
I also have a mostly complete 14 bolt if you want it Jerry (no spiders or shafts). It does have 4.10/open carrier.

I have a 3/4 ton 14bff at home...
I just need to move the spring purches and weld some shock brackets.
LOL...I just have to move a d44 housing and a 3.73 14bff to get to the 4.10 rear. :crazy:

Ya, I need to swap out the 10 bolt on the Tahoe for a 14SF.. There was one at a local yard here with Disc's.. But I think they wanted about $750.. :eek:

I might be able to give you a hand Saturday.. I'll let ya know.

Beer in the frig....stocked bar...etc... :D :D ;)
 
Don't feel bad. I was installing my Detroit last night in my 14bff and my carrier bearings fell apart. I was pissed.

Why didn't you pull the axleshafts and driveshafts and use the frontend to get home instead of f-in up the 14b more?

I run a 14 FF on my K20...I had the spiders welded solid but i went on me when i got stock in 3 feet of snow in a local gas station parking lot...I was comin on her pretty hard trying to get out of there; had her floored in 4 LO, tranny shifting back and forth 1 to 2ND gear :mad:

Din not make it out by myself, Big F-350 plowed me a road :blush:

All that to say that my rear end still goin strong even after welding breaking on me!!

Is that what they use in U.S. army tanks :thinking:

I put it it 4wd...and 2nd gear...and idled..
I did most of the harm on the freeway. :crazy:
