I started my first rebuilt engine today! (6.2 Diesel)

:haha::haha::haha:

i don't think he wanted to check out my truck tho. he wasn't real happy with me. i knew it was coming too, b/c i pulled up to the light where i needed to turn to go to muddytazz's place and the cop was sitting in the turn lane directly opposite me, so we stared at eachother for a good 2 minutes. :rolleyes: the only reason i can figure that he ran my plates is b/c the windshield has a HUGE spider crack in it - like someone hit it w/ a baseball bat. anyway, i pulled into muddytazz's parking lot and within 30 seconds the cop was there. i don't have my insurance card yet b/c i haven't recieved my card from the insurance company. insurance told me to demonstrate my card from my other vehicle if something were to happen since they are the same account. he proceeded to explain to me that if i were lying about insurance that he would have to arrest me. :eek1: i suppose that's fair tho. in anycase, he let me off the hook. i was then in a huge debate w/ myself as to if i should try and get my truck the final 4 miles of the trip. i could just see the cop sitting outside muddytazz's place waiting for me to pull out. :o but we took backroads to the ferry and crossed the river that way. (essentially, it's a 6 vehicle ferry that probably gets a total of 15 vehicles in a 13 hour day of service - these were very much back roads.) :D

What was his "The reason I stopped you Son"?

As far as not having an ins card, I have the ins company fax it to DMV. At least if you go there to register, well ,I guess that's the problem. I only run 4x4 Chevs, so It's easier to cheat, as long as Policia don't check VIN.
In NY the ins card is scannable, like upc code at grocery store. DMV and ins co's work very closely. too closely. If you don't turn in your tags, but cancel ins, (v expensive in NY), ins co notifies DMV, fast, and DMV sends u a letter, fast, and penalizes $9 day, up to 90 days, then suspends driver licence equal days after unpaid for 90 days. Real tuff!

ok, here's some pics of me on the ferry w/ my rig. the ferry operator is pretty cool. he thought it was pretty sweet that i have a diesel in this rig. the life saving ring was his idea. he made people wait on the other side of the river so that we could take some poser pics on the ferry. how funny is that? :haha:

Sweet!!! :bow: :bow:

I remember a dude at the corner gas station here about freaked on me when i started pumping diesel into my truck once. He's yelling his fool head off "That's diesel!!!" at the top of his lungs. I just kept pumping...finally he gets right up to the truck and tells me again "that's diesel sir". So I said "Yeah, it better be or I'll be pretty ticked off" :D He didn't believe my truck was diesel until he heard me start it and drive away...damn kids these day. :haha:

that's funny stuff. it's been real fun to see the looks on people's faces as i roll around town. other built chevy owner's wave at me, not built chevy owners have glared at me, kids point and stare, and so do all the rich-snobby people out near my in-laws house. :D funny stuff.

thats great news!!! I am only 18 and have done several gas engines myself, but that first engine is always the sweetest. I have never done a deisel, but i really want to give it a shot. Proud of ya buddy!!!

Dude Thats awsome man! Hows the smoking? all pretty much gone now? BTW did you ever top off the tranny from when we drained some out of it?

yeah, the smoke issue is significantly reduced - smokes briefly on cold engine starts, pretty common w/ diesels. and yes, i dropped the pan the whole way and did a fluid exchange. :)
