Just got done working and im freaking exhausted...got 4 of the rivets ground down and the pass side shackle hanger off...man im beat...also got the old blocks out and one of the zero rates instaled and the u bolt and everything put back togher...i sure hope all this work is worth it!!!

Post up about your pinion angle. If or what you had to do to make it right. I'm planning the same flip soon (got the parts, just need a day off)

if you thought the flip was fun.....

wait til you deal with pinion angle!

I think to some degree it has to do with your make and year.

Then of course, adjustments. Shiming. Lengthening. Double CV joints.

By the time I was done with mine, I had a double CV, with a zero rate 1" relocation. :haha:

My rivits (all 8) came off within 10 minutes. I just used the ole 7" grinder and it took the tops right off. Punched em through with a hammer and was done. I can see it being a problem with a 4" grinder though.

I torched off the heads, pryed/kicked the old ones off, beat the rivets that would come out. All but 3 on the bottom came right out. I ground the other down and had some help from Brett and Kert(i need some more muscle) beating them out.

THEN we got to find out my freaking frame was tweaked from my ag hitch:doah:

Dang, that sounds like more trouble than I expected. Did you use a cutting wheel to cut slits in 'em before grinding them, or just went to grinding? Let us know how it goes tomorrow. I'm interested in the pinion angle too, as I've read burbs sometimes have more adj to make than k5s. Mine's waiting in the garage for install as well.

today i cut slits in the heads and the took them out piece by piece with a air chisel...the drivers side is a real PITA because the spare tire well its right in your way..oh and expect to drop your tank i had to drop mine today...once you get all that done you should be alright...i moved mine foward cause im running longer shackles...

i center punched my rivets and drilled them with a half inch drill bit when it gets threw the head to the shaft i knock them out with a punch and hammer

i took the front and rear hangers for the rear end off a 76 parts truck and the ones off my 64 chevy then put the 76 ones on my 64 that way it worked pretty good

if i had a torch i would cut the heads off

So , it sounds like...a torch, grinder, hammer, chisel, crowbar and drill work the best.Cool...mine's sitting here waiting for me too.Yea...please let us know how the pinion angle goes !

it should be pointing down a couple degrees below parallel. looks like it's pointing up.

If you are running a CV joint it looks good, but for a standard driveshaft it should be pointing downward a bit. If you've got any kind of lift on the truck (4-6"+) and you like to drive on the freeway, a CV joint will be a nice although $$ thing to have.

x2. i ran my k5 down the highway with the pinion angle like this, and it would scream. i was planning to do a cv shaft once i went sye, but changed plans with the k5. heres my shackle angle as well.

im gonna flip the right and left side and that should solve it...prolly wont do it today mabye tomm...if i need to drive on it this weekend for like 30 miles (just on road)would my springs be alright???we have a meet and greet this saterday and i would really like to drive it...

they will be fine. i drove my k5 with that angle for over 1k miles and it ran fine, it just made some noise. with ur wheelbase u might be alright with that angle and a non cv shaft. its not an issue of if they will be fine, they will.
