I think he's crazy

If *think* the Sterling has 12 bolts that retain the ring gear to the carrier.

Tom

Well then that would make more sense. I started reading and he started say 14 10.25 and then 12. It threw me for a loop.

It is for a 10.25"/10.5" Ford Sterling rear axle. The Sterling axle has 12 cover bolts and he is mistakingly calling the axle something it isn't.

That's not for a 10.25"/10.5" Ford. The Ford one is a full case and looks like this:

EDIT: whatever it is the guy is selling, the spline count would be helpful. There is a drop-in style like that for a D70 though.

Look at your pic, you must take the two halves apart and the detroit goes inside just like a 14ff.

That's a fine theory - but the stock Ford case is a 1-piece (doesn't split apart) unless its the newer split case 3-spider posi.

If the detroit case comes apart would you not be able to buy the internal "detroit" itself if it ever did break? Maybe that is what he is selling.

It could be for a Dana 70 as was mentioned as they too have a split case like a 14FF.

Maybe - but you can buy a complete new Detroit for the 10.25" for $599 advertised online.

The seller should post the part number to avoid confusion. How do you confirm the application beforehand with the garbage info provided?

Perhaps he's flip-flopping between diff cover bolts and carrier bolts. After all, and 14-bolt has 12 ring gear bolts. ;)

I am not disputing the guy is ****ed up, just that to say it is not for a ford with the info given I dont think is possible.

His price is outrageous I would agree.

No worries... I just get worked up over eBay ads that are incomplete, have omitted critical information, or are otherwise misleading.

This pic is a 2 piece case. The 8 bolts hold the 2 pieces together. If the detroit in question is a part number 225SL-56A then it is for a 10.25"/10.5" sterling.

Of course its a 2-piece. It comes like that out of the Tractech box. I'd know - I bought it and unboxed it. :D

The stock 10.25" diff cases (open or posi) are all 1-piece units.
