I think I want F*rd

Another option is pulling the 454 out of your Sub and installing an AMG 6.5 optimiser diesel.
Easy swap, direct bolt in for your 1994. Prices on them have come down. You can get them for around $4500 now

I vote 7.3 excusion. Working at a Ford dealer for a while, if you treat it like a white boy it will last. Dont redneck it up and think its a hot rod or lift it to the sky. And with 6.0s if you drive it like normal person you wont have many problems. Most the problems happen with 6.0s for people gettin that whole diesel craze and putting on a tuner or chip and upping the boost and thats where you start having problems. All diesels have there problems, but the 7.3 uses less special tools and is a very simple.

arcticmania on here has one with 35s and 5" lift.it tows great and can do mild offroading fine.its biggest problem with playin in the dirt is the weight.good runner and decent mileage.

Thanks for the input guys. Believe me, I've thought about putting a 12V Cummins in the Burb...but then I either trust a Chrysler transmission or have to get a super-expensive adapter and build the crap out of a 4L80E. (Note: in CA, diesel swaps are actually pretty easy, but you have to retain the type [auto or manual] of tranny that originally came with the vehicle).

I'm looking at my schedule and some expected events happening and just don't know if I have the resources to put towards a swap right now. I've actually got a brand new milsurp Optimizer sitting in a crate out back, but I had planned on putting that in my '83 shortbed pickup along with a 4L80E. I do love the 6.x GM's, but in this case I want more power than they can reliably offer.

I just dunno...I'll prolly waffle back and forth over it for a while :o

Anybody out west got a 12V they wanna sell me cheap to tip the scales?

You could go with an NV4500. That was my route. Somewhat pricey but not too bad if you know where and what to look for.

Either way I think it's going to cost a whole lot less than that diesel excursion :wink1:.

I am by no means a Chrysler fan, but I would definitely opt to run the Chrysler tranny over the 4L80E. There are a lot of guys building the Chrysler stuff to take the 12V abuse while it is really a non-existent industry with the 4L80E. A performance built gas transmission is a whole different ball game than a diesel version. I don't know of anyone making a converter for the 4L80E that I would feel comforatable sticking behind that 12V. The converter takes huge abuse behind a strong diesel.

Yeah, an NV4500 would be nice...but CA law says for diesel swap you gotta stick with the original type (auto or man). In addition, da wife will be driving this beast occasionally and, while she fully supports owning a diesel land yacht, she won't drive a manual.

If I did the 12V swap I'd go with a 47RH.

I've got a 47RH....and a few 12V's...but I am on the other coast.

Yah, the east coast is great for drivetrain parts. I lived out that way for a couple years and hauled a couple D60 fronts back on my trailer.
