The oil pump in my Yukon died on my way to work this morning :( 211k miles was all the life it had. The distributor had been loose and messing with the timing, but I thought I had that issue fixed until it started running like crap on my way to work this morning. Then my check gauges light came on and there was no oil pressure. "Oh ######!" And I pull over to take a look, oil level is fine and no signs of a seal failure, crap. I had no choice (I was only a mile from work) but to drive it very gingerly to work, keeping the revs low. Hopefully the Mobil1 did its job and kept my engine safe. Wasn't clattering or anything when I parked it. Now I get to fix it...yay.

Also, those oil pumps dont usually just die. The screen can plug up, the pickup tube can fall off, and the shaft can break. If the pump actually "died" it would have at least made some good noise when it happened.

Agreed,I dont think I have ever seen a oil pump fail, its usually the pick up or the drive shaft to it that causes troubles..--and he would have heard lifters clattering and bearings rapping if it lost all oil pressure, full crankcase or not..
I'd definately screw in a mechanical gauge and check pressure before thinking about removing the oil pan..

and 96-03 vortec sbc style engines have huge problem striping dist gears .

further diagnostic is needed to pin point problem .

I think Riley is just hunting for excuses to not go to BB now

Well, if I can type this before we find out, I'm going to go with dizzy problems. He said that it had been loose, so I'm thinking it might have ridden up enough to disengage the oil pump.
Not sure if there is enough room for it to do that and still let the engine run.

If I would be able to keep my job, I'd just skip work, but trains don't drive themselves...

The clamp that holds the distributor in place came loose, allowing it to move up the camshaft until it disconnected from the oil pump and throwing the timing way off. Easy fix.

I'll bet.....................Poorly!
