I would like to have a place to talk about beginneer stuff. The questions that get asked over and over again. Similar to what Pirate has.

Sometimes I have questions that I would feel bad asking here.

As much as i dislike some of the a-holes I pirate, I think it would be a pretty good idea to follow suit with a noob forum. I too have noobish questions. At least on ck5 though you won't get completely flamed like on pirate, that's another reason why I support CK5:waytogo::grin:

Isn't this the newb forum? Seriously if you just join it pretty much the only forum you can post to. It may not have been intended to be a newb forum but by default I think thats what it has ended up being.

Naw, I think this place is fine. Now if ppl would put correct titles in their subject line, that would help some of us to skip or gloss over that post. simply putting "Help, truck wont start" is too vague.

the ones that drive me nuts are the questions where no vitals are given.. motor, gears, etc...

you always know the noobs to the forum, usually they pick it up pretty quick tho... I just take all the repeat questions as the kinda stuff ya run across in the garage...

The idea of a tech section broken down like the "for sale" area is interesting to me tho...

but if it won't start and they know what's wrong with it i'm pretty sure they wouldn't have to ask right??

Just makin an observation. :D

As for askin stupid questions just ask. Someone will answer. I've answered many of the same questions. It's why i like it here and not some ass hat sayin do a search. If they have no memebership it's kinda hard ;)

I personally don't think it's necessary. I know for a fact that even the most nOOb question usually gets answered multiple times, and generally in a good mannered way. If things AREN'T working that way, then people need to let us know so we can deal with it....:deal:

One thing that is often overlooked is the power of the search feature. Some of the more basic questions have been answered hundreds of times, and a quick search can often provide a guy with hours of reading directly related to his question or problem. That being said, there's nothing wrong with asking what some might call a "stupid" question. We were all there once, and the open sharing of info related to K-series rigs is what CK5 is all about.

Just be sure to take the time to provide us with as much info as possible related to your issue. And the odd "thank you" really helps, too...........:wink1:

X2. I agree. I don't want to start seperating anyone for any reasons. We all get along very well here. If people have problems with simple questions/ already asked questions and they don't feel like answering then just move on. You don't have to post/answer.

I like it the way it is.

I vote no on the noobie forum..

my first post here was a noob question in 2003, and paul ( cancan) answered it, as did a few others.. all were very helpful & welcoming..THAT is why I then put up my twenty five bucks and haven't looked back.. nobody gave me any crap at all. ( that comes later, in the lounge :D )

jump in, the water is fine..

I have another opinion...

How about dividing the garage are in two sections, the radical off road guys (guys with hard core rides) and the week end riders (stock and a bit more)..

What do you think.. this way you and i could determine what kind of response to give out..:wink1:

that's kinda along the lines I thinking about. Though I don't consider myself a rosy fresh noob I still have some simple (stupid) questions that I feel could be answered quick in more of a stock forum. Where as some of y'all highly skilled/talented  guys with buggys on 54s:D could have a more advanced section. I'm not saying this just to get rid of noobish questions but to set up 2 Garage type sections with a "normal/stockish garage" and an "advanced/hardcore Garage" like he's talking about would be pretty good.

Just my .02:wink1:

still don't see the need for segregation.. if someone posts a question that's easy to understand, uses paragraphs, and contains pertinent info, those with the knowledge are happy to share, no matter their level of involvement in off roading..

as far as what kind of response to give out, not sure I follow.. as long as the response is helpful, pertinent and accurate, that's the point right?

I agree. I've learned a lot from others' newbee questions and when someone else asks about thing I've been thinking about, it saves my ego so I can ask my next noob question. I also like reading about hard core and weekend stuff even though I'd never be in a position to do something really radical.

Hard to say how to answer this...

The way I see it, CK5 has grown far beyond your run-of-the-mill off-road site. It's become all things K-series. You have guys like Craig Artzner whose truck will never see dirt. This site is very valuable to someone like him because of the sheer volume of people tearing into these trucks. For every question asked, 10 people (whether they respond to the question, or even read it) dealt with the same exact issue in the last month, if not the last week...possibly that very day. The knowledge here is incredible. Keeping the vast majority of the tech in one forum may make it easier, for some, to find the answer they're looking for.

On the other hand, separating the content into multiple, more specific forums may make it easier on others. This being written by a guy who started a poll just like this, and was successful in getting the Interior Forum added to the lineup (which some folks still aren't using :deal: :rotfl: ).

Honestly, at some point I see a lot more C-series guys jumping on board seeing as how 95% of the truck in stock form is identical. I know when I get a C-10, I'll be using the site just as frequently when I have a question regarding it...

My $.02...

Crikey, we have too many already. I never go into the Diesel forum ... the 73-91 forum ... the seventeen kinds of parts forums ... the Prime-Numbered-Tuesday forum.

Too complicated, and too much mouse scrollage. You wanna add more? You're gonna brain fry old farts like me.

I vote no changes, and I have answered plenty of "noob" questions, multiple times. But, I will never say do a search as my only answer, and if the person is a non-paying member, I will suggest paying for the search functionality alone.

All that being said, the Garage is for all tech, not just hardcore buggies or rigs on 44's, everything you need can be had in the Garage. No reason I can see to split the Garage.
