i wanna hear about your 4\"/37\'s/4.10/d44/t700r4 combo

does anybody here run this combo or something close to it. i am running 35's now and i am contemplating 37's (bfg mud) and that's the setup i have. auto tranny w/ OD, 4.10 gears, 4" lift, d/44 $ 14 bolt.

if you have this, do you have breakage problems from the larger size tires? are you happy with the gearing and tire size combo?
pics are always welcome too.
as always, thanks for the help.

I have 37's 4.10's and a TH350. I don't think I could get away with and OD though. Harley was whining about his OD this weekend. He has 35's 4.56's and OD. Problem is my truck want to cruise at 60-65 (aroun 2300-2600 RPM) and his is shifting in and out of OD at that same speed (so he doesn't really enjoy following me that much). I can only see gear hunting getting worse if you go taller.

I had 4", 37's 700, 4:10's, 10 bolt, 14 bolt and I loved it. Not a problem with the OD on the freeway at all. Plenty of power when i need it and I never broke anything while wheeling. I always had a light foot and was only locked in the rear. Here is a pic but it has about 7 inches of total lift in the pic.

I had 4.10 and O/d and with 35s my truck was a total dog.

I have 5" with 37's 14B/10B 4.10's I had a 700R but like mentioned above I could never use OD cause it was always jumping in and out. I have a TH350 now and my truck is much happier. About 2600 RPM at 75

With OD and 37's you need to run at least 4.88's. I wish I had 4.88's with my 35's. I honestly am thinking about regearing again because I want 37-38's. I regeared to 4.56 and it is ok with 35's but wouldn't cut it with 37's.

5.13's is the gear you should run with 37's. 4.88's minimum if you want the tranny to be happy, not gear hunt, and not die an early death from heat, shifting, etc.

As Matt said above, I can't really cruise that well at 55-70 MPH. Once I get up to above 70 I am great, my motor hits its power band and I can run hard and fast. Below that sucks. I run in drive till I get to 55-60mph to keep the RPM's up.

Ditto what Harley said, I have 4:10's and 35's. They are bias Claws so there probably a little harder to turn then a radial. I keep it in D unless on the freeway doing 65+. If/when I switch I'm going 5.13's. I have a great motor, Vortec, with plenty of power but I'm worried about the tranny.

I also have 700R/4.10s and 35's and I don't use my overdrive much. Is it bad for an overdrive tranny to run in "D" most of the time?

Re: i wanna hear about your 4\"/37\'s/4.10/d44/t700r4 combo

Nope, but it is bad for an OD tranny to cruise at a low RPM in OD is bad. If the torque converter doesn't lock up then your tranny will burn up. Then it will cost you big $$$ to replace.

What is considered "low" rpm for being in OD?

Re: i wanna hear about your 4\"/37\'s/4.10/d44/t700r4 combo

Anything lower than 2100-2200 I consider a "low" cruising rpm.

Currently with my setup, I run about 1850rpm at 70 mph in OD and my truck/tranny hates it (as do I /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif).

I belive I'm about the same, I think I will keep driving my truck in D and keep my tranny and I happy. Of course I could always put some smaller tires on it /forums/images/graemlins/doah.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shame.gif

Don't do that just go faster so OD is usable.
I ran some #'s on OD for my set up and it wouldn't be worth it for me. I would need 5.88's if I step up to 40's. Brian "Labarge" had 4.88's in his with 37's and said he really needed 5.13's to use his OD below 80mph.

Re: i wanna hear about your 4\"/37\'s/4.10/d44/t700r4 combo

Right now, I am running 4:56's, detroit rear, 14bff, dana 44, with 35's BFG MT's. Seem to be tall 35's too. Not sure, haven't measured them. I am absolutely amazed with the power pulling hills, compared to how it was 70K miles ago with stock tires, it pulls better in D. Not OD though. It does ok on flat freeway in OD, but not with the AC on or any hills. I mostly drive it in D. I would have gone with 4:88's or 5:13's if I was going to re-gear, but the axles I got already had 4:56's and they were cheap, so I left them in there.
