This is exactly what I want. I've even talked the wife into it.

At the link: auction for a former Suburban school bus that is not yellow.

Looked interesting: a stickshift with rear air, and when I looked further: 8 lug wheels and manual hubs! Awesome!

So, it says "poor" condition. I call the school district and speak to the people in the bus garage. It's been well-maintained for its life (I work for a school district so I know how DOT regs are with kids involved) and needs only a battery to drive away. Too good to be true, you say!

The current bid: $500!!!! Heaven!

Alas, if I saw this in June when I could pick up and get to Utah, I would be all over this. I can't. To get there would cost me a ton of change and I can't swing it this week when I would need to. I even checked taking out a loan against my retirement to do it! Nope.

So, humble CK5ers, I hope one of you can grab it. It looks like the current winning bidder is a scrapper, and those miles are supposed to be a true 56K: supposedly, it hasn't gone around.

I would buy it, fly out, and drive it back to PA if this were one month ago. *sigh*

In the middle it says condition:not running. So just needs a battery to run? That'd be sweet to pick up on my way down to AR.

Looks like a decent suburban.

Has the standard headliner.:D

Called and they said it was being used in June. Just needed a battery top fire right up and run. So they said.

I run into a similar situation almost every day. But im really looking for one of the forest service green ones!

I could have got another suburban for what I just paid for shocks :doah:

I have a large headquarters for the Forest Service five minutes from my house. They're all the 2005 and up style now, but the place is swimming with them. I'll keep my eyes peeled.

Went for $500. Note the 8 lug wheels; aren't those axles in good shape worth 1k each?

I haz a sad right now

EDIT: 40 minutes left; up until 3pm EST

EDIT2: Went for $770.

No. That is just a GM 10 bolt front axle and the less desirable 14 bolt semi floater. I wouldn't give more than $200 for the set.

OK: so, since I had that wrong (I still reallllly wanted that truck), how can you tell how desirable the axles are (or are not, in this case) by those pictures? Can someone help explain to me?

Thanks!

because that truck only came with a 10 bolt front with a semi float 14 at best. i think 12 bolt & 10 bolt rear were also available on some? i dont believe (but i've been wrong once or twice) that you could get a FF14 bolt in the back of those? even than, a 14FF is only worth $1-300 depending.

Check out the axle identification guide on this sight. In general, I would say any of the most common axles in as is condition out of a driving truck but with no modifications, each axle will go for between $50-$150. Tue exceptions being the obvious like factory 1ton stuff. Especially m1008 type military stuff which would have 4.56 gears and a Detroit locker in (at least) the rear. D60 front axles are what everyone wants. They are the most expensive of any gm axle ans go for about $750-$1000 depending on condition. D60 rear ends on Tue other hand fall inline with my earlier statement of $50-150.
