I wish my rig was Hardcore,

My experience with "Dick" didn't come at a car show, it came at a 4 wheelin club meeting. I'd been in the process of swapping a 6.2 into my Jimmy, and had been showing up to the previous three or four meetings with the wife's ride.

I finally got it together and brought it out to the next meeting. 40's, new 60/14 in, 6.2 swapped in. No great powerhouse, but it will run upside down and with the manual tranny will wheel very elegantly and reliably. Much moreso than average.

All meeting long...Cummins this, Cummins that, 6.2= boat anchor, blah blah blah. Apparently nobody noticed the one ton stuff, or the new 40's.

That was one of the last meetings I went to, and I don't think I ever wheeled with those guys again.

Rene

It's always funny to me how people think power is such a big deal for wheeling.

Mud: yes. Everything else, pretty much no.

Well I'm sure he did since he probably managed to stuff a race ready 350 in his or maybe he even did a 454 somehow in his little Nissan:D

I get the power thing all the time. I tell everybody it's just a stock tbi 350 which is all I need. Then you have to explain it's all about gearing.

Yeah thats probably my favorite question. How much WHP does it have. What a joke.

I know a guy here in town that always used to tell me "You never want to be the first person to try something"

Explain that attitude to me?

My Dad gave me some excellent advice when I was a young boy on dealing with these types of people. He used to always say "Be the hawk" and what he meant by that was this, you ever seen a bluejay or mocking bird swooping down and harrasing a hawk in mid air? The hawk could easily retaliate and kill the smaller bird but instead he just keeps flying higher and higher until the smaller bird can't keep up. Whenever I'm dealing with one of these a**holes I just grin and nod and think about the hawk.:D

small blocks are hack.you cant do anything without havin a big block or a cummins.haha.i will never go big block.im too used to having this lil 300 hp 350 engine to step up to that much power.i seriously dont need much more than that.correct gearing and a strong 6 would be good enough.

Well, now you've all seen the light...:D

It's all got to be bolt on stuff and a sticker in the window for everything you've bought...

If you've made it yourself and don't have a sticker that they can relate to, then you've failed as a true wheeler...

I like explaining my un-hardcore set up to jeep guys... And when I tell them it's pipe,:eek1: they just about sh!t their pants...

The propane and full hydro really gets them freaking out also...:D

someone really ought to bring their rig into a car show upside down on a flat bed trailer. Would stir some conversations up lol.

You can never have enough power :D

I'm just a web wheeler though

I will be at blazer bash 2011 though, at least I hope so

Mines not even close to hard core. But I made an EMT crap his pants at 60mph in the desert. And it does wheel in the Rockies OK. First year at Moab I heard "you gonna wheel that here?" I still had fun. Stock tbi350.

Mine isn't any more capable with the 383 than it was with the 200K 350 but it is fun sometimes

I've been around a few people like this over the years. When I first started trailriding the K5 I got a lot of "looks" because it was the only fullsize truck that went on the trails. Obviously anything that said "Jeep" on it would do better even with stock tires and open diffs versus my larger mud tires and lockers. It didn't take long to change their minds and now everybody respects the K5 and a buddy who runs a '78 F-250. The F-250 is probably considered the most capable rig in the club and I would say the K5 is in the top 5.

The best time was several years ago on a trailride with our club. A couple of "new" guys showed up and one was an older fella' with a clean looking CJ-5 on 36" tires, shiny aluminum wheels, and a nice sounding V-8.....and of course he was critiquing everybodies rigs in the moring and telling them about all of the places he had wheeled before. 5 minutes into the trail he was stuck in a small washout that even open diff rigs on 33" tires had made it. Another 100 yards on a rock face it pulls up to it and with a small amount of throttle the front axle makes some horrible grinding noises. Pretty sure the front ring and pinion stripped. We offered to help him at least pull the cover but he refused stating "I just replace the gears yesterday"???? He had a winch so we hooked it up but it wouldn't pull the Jeep over this small ledge, so we tugged him up. At some point he also mentioned he had a locker in the rear. I noticed only one rear tire was spinning and if he had a locker, then something else was wrong. Turns out he had the factory worn-out Trac-lok (which is way closer to an open diff then a locker).

This section of trail was only about 1/2 mile long until we could get him to a gravel road and then back to pavement and his trailer. Once past this section of gravel you start a 7+ mile long fairly difficult trail with lots of mud and hills, and once in to it there is no turning back......definitely not a place to take a broken 1 wheel drive rig in to.

Anyway, I made the above suggeston and the guy gets make yelling out "I ain't no rookie.....I'll just run the other trail in 2wd"...."I ran all over Slade (Natural Bridge) Kentucky in 2wd...blah, blah, blah". Well, I've been to Slade numerous times and there are trails I have a hard time or can't go on with 40" tires, 1-tons, lockers, and 10 years of driving the same rig.

I told him that's fine, but he get in the back of the pack and we weren't going to be responsible to dragging him out of the trail when (not if) he further broke or got hopelessly stuck.

Let's just say that maybe 1/2 mile into the trail with the 304 at redline and driving kamikaze style he bent his tierod bouncing off a tree, then proceeded to almost knock himself out with the hi-lift fixing the above. Rest of the group also sat around for an hour while he was doing this. His buddy finally talked him into turning around and leaving.
