I did the procedure to reset the IAC motor on my TBI-350 and found a clicking noise I'm not sure is supposed to be there. Here's the deal:

1. Jump the A and B terminal in the ALDL connector.
2. Turn ignition on, but don't start the motor.
3. Wait for 30 seconds then disconnect the IAC wiring connector...

When I go to remove the IAC connector, the IAC motor is making a fast clicking noise kinda like it's trying to open or close and is stuck? The noise stops when I unplug the connector. Any ideas what's up? I've got a surging idle again that I'm trying to diagnose.

Edit: Data logged it and the IAC counts are about 30-35. Seems they should be 10-15?

That is what it should be doing. Jumpering the A-B terminals force the IAC motor to close (this is the clicking you hear) and when you disconnect the wiring connector the clicking should stop since you're removing the power to the IAC motor.

Hmm, I would expect the clicking to stop after it's closed. Mine just sits there and clicks forever until I unplug it. But that's normal?

That is absolutely normal. Mine does the exact same thing if I "force" it closed by jumpering the A-B terminals.

That's fine too! They will change from day to day, cold to hot, dry to humid, sea level to 14k feet... I forget what FSM says but from experiance anything from 10 to 50 at idle is fine.
