In my 87' 5.7L I removed and cleaned the IACV including the pintle. I was under the impression that you do NOT need to adjust the pintle as the ECM should essentially be doing the for you. I tried a reset etc etc. Anyways I've now read conflicting stuff. When reinstalling the pintle I screwed it back in the all the way (still spun freely but threads bottomed out) after that my idle is AWFUL on a cold start, dies when I go to reverse, sometimes dies right after starting. I tried the reset, key on then off. Also another reset, battery off, unplug IACV, jumper AB terminal etc. Idle still sucks. Prior to this cold start idle wasn't great but it's now much worse.

TLDR: do I need to adjust the pintle height on IACV? If not, what is the correct way to reset the IACV as I've read many conflicting things. Thanks!

I am just here to get the answer.
Never had to deal with this so no idea

leave battery connected and IAC plugged in. jumper AB. turn key to ON for 60sec. this should fully close IAC. you can hear it closing and it should start clicking once it is all the way closed. but 60sec ought to be plenty of time. turn key to off. remove jumper. then start it up. if that doesn't work. the IAC itself may be bad or there is an unrelated problem.
