I own a 75 K5 and I was wondering how to identify

the transmission and transfer case. Also, I don't know how

to tell if my truck has full or part time 4wd. At the moment,

my truck is crippled with 2wd. Thanks in advance.

Are you Auto or manual? If your manual its a SM465... a muncie tranmission.
Your transefer should either be a np205 part-time, or a np203 which is full time.

Auto... should either be a TH400 or TH350 3spds. Quickest is the pan on the bottom, TH400 has a bigger more square shaped pan.

check to see if there is a PTO cover IF there is, ita 205 part time

I thought the TH350 was more square shaped? It is square except for the corner chopped off.

the th350 tranny has a square pan with a corner cut off, the th400 has a illinois shapped pan and a 700r4 (not avaliable untill 82) has a square pan.

a np203 and np205 both have pto covers. the np203 is long and has a 1" thick adapter. the np205 has atleast a 3" thick adapter (depending on auto or stick) and has a small cover with 3 bolts holding it on in the middle on rear of the tcase.

doh... your right I got that backwords, the TH350 is the squarepan with the notched corner

if the tranny is stock
Manual - Sm465 (Shift Pattern is L 1 2 3 R)
Auto - TH350 (3 speed, square pan with 1 corner 45'ed)

tcase is easiest to ID by shift pattern:
Np203: (Full time - many have been converted to part time)
Low Lock
Low
N
High
High Lock

Np205: (Part time)
4Lo
4High
N
2High

if its not stock, then it gets more complicated]

As for fulltime/parttime, Do you have locking hubs on the front axle?
Yes - Part time (could be np205 or converted np203)
No - Full time (np203)
