I\'d really suck at rock crawling

Took the orange Blazer out today to the ORV park. Attempted this one little hill, kind of in a ravine of sorts. Had some rocks and alot of loose sand in spots.

I have 35" Swamper SX's and a Detroit in the rear. Trying to crawl up, the thing would start hopping (probably rear axlewrap cause I have 4" blocks back there), and I'd start to dig holes in the sand.

Finally made it up and through after the motor kept trying to cut out (carb issues), then the battery connection not giving connection w/out wiggling the terminal...

...then the tailgate flying open and the unbolted down rear seat flying out the back... twice. /forums/images/graemlins/doah.gif

I looked at the hill again, and can't imagine it taking so much effort to get up. A real rock course would probably just disintegrate the blazer.

Maybe I just don't know how to drive, or I put together POS rigs. Or both. /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

No its probably like the rest of ours a "work in progress" Or at least mine is. Just think fix a few of the small problems then do the hill again you will probably just fly up the hill.

Hey don't sweat it we have all been there /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif

Re: I\'d really suck at rock crawling

I think it's just me in general. I could have a truck locked front and rear with boggers on it spinning all 4's trying to make it up a paved hill, and some other guys in a 2wd wouldd idle right past me.

Thats how it seems some times at least. /forums/images/graemlins/screwy.gif Like, when I take a shortcut to get someplace, and I speed, and a friend leaves the same time and goes the long way at normal speeds, and they make it there before I do. /forums/images/graemlins/doah.gif

I think that 8-10 tire pressure will help you to crawl up the next time.

Hmm, for rocks....I would say low speed..

But you said a sandy hill, so I think you just need to mash the pedal and get a real good start at it...bring a camera /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif

Big block would work for this /forums/images/graemlins/woot.gif

Re: I\'d really suck at rock crawling

Yeah, the sand screwed me up. I tried crawling slow. I just started hopping. I think I should ditch the rear blocks and do a shackle flip.

It has a built 454 in it, but the carb on it doesnt like steep grades.

Were you out at 7 mile? I have got some cool video of my Blazer "do'in the axle hop thing" out there on a couple of the hills /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif

Re: I\'d really suck at rock crawling

Yep... thats where I was. Last Saturday. We were the only two rigs out there, and the ONLY people nuts enough to be driving around in the heat. I had never seen the ORV park so empty before. But I went cause a friend in the Army was back to get married, and we all had to go out and do some manly stuff before the wedding.

I will say one thing, the Orange Blazer will spin doughnuts real easy. So easy, I spun around so many times I got dizzy and had a headache the rest of the day.

So, what part of town are you in?
