I might be picking this up from a buddy but was hoping someone on here could tell what tranny it had in front of it and if it is a round pattern or the other one, what is it called, a figure 8? I might be picking up a th400-203 combo from him, and I already have a th350-205 in my 71. both factory installed. If this 205 in the pic is a 32 spline input, whats a good price? Also, what should I pay for a used 400-203? Condition unknown and from hillbilliies so your guess is a good as mine. No offense to the hilly's, I just graduated from hillbilly status!:haha:

I just noticed it has the slip shaft output. I already have a 205, could I swap my output into this one if this one is a 32 spline input?

That is a figure 8 pattern 205 that came out from behind a TH350 27 spline. It is a later 205 as it has a rear slip yoke and not a fixed yoke.

I thought I read somewhere that the old cases were figure 8, and newer ones were round? But the slipjoint is of course a newer case.

To answer this question: Yes, the output housing assemblies are interchangable. Slap on a new gasket and yoke seal and you're good to go.

80 and newer had the slip yoke. the round pattern started in 85. this is most likely from an 80 because it is the only year that you can get the slip yoke 205 behind a th350. in 81 the np208 were being used.

looks like an '80, bought one recently without the adaptor and paid $75 for it if that helps.

you can swap the outputs from any 205 to any 205...remove the 6 bolts that hold the entire yoke assembly on (no need to remove yoke) and pull it off. be caefull, there are needle bearings inside, they usulally dont fall out but i pack em with grease so they dont fall when reassembling...
