Everyone knows these ole 6.2's can be a pain in the butt to start when its cold. GP's and theire controller systems have to be maintained constantly.

Heres my thought. My first backhoe had a cold start intake heater thing, Im not sure what you would call it. It was basicaly a metal screan in the intake tube that heats up red hot. When the backhoe was new it had a switch that was timed for like 10 minutes or so not sure of the time. Over the years the system that controled it had gone bad and was changed to a direct toggle switch with a relay. The guy that helped me with this said the time to leave it on is a few seconds b4 start and on until it runs smooth. That amounts to about 5 minutes or so. The intake tube was about 4" IIRC. I think this could easily be rigged up on the 6.2 trucks as a supliment to the GP's.
**THIS IS ALSO NOT STARTER FLUID FRIENDLY**

What do you guys think? Or am I behind the times and this has already beed tried?

I think that is basically the same thing the 5.9 Cummin's uses. IIRC it's called a grid heater.

As long as you have 8 working GP's, good cranking speed, and when really cold a block heater you shouldn't have any trouble. I've started mine at 6 degrees F without any real trouble. It doesn't hardly ever get as cold as that here though.
