I bought a pair of axles off of e bay to use the shafts as spares but the front turns out to be different!
I thought I had a dana 44 front and 12 bolt rear on the truck. Have a look at these pics and let me know what I've got fitted and what on earth I've bought!!

Any help much appreciated! /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

Its definitely a 12 bolt and d44 combo on the ground . And its a 12 bolt and 10 bolt on the truck . For some reason the pics don't work , but your signature does /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif

Thanks guys, got a few bits wrong in the link! So if that's a D44 on the ground the shafts won't fit in my 10b will they? Is the D44 better than the 10 bolt?

Only the outer stubs and u-joints will swap (as far as shafts go).

There is realy little difference in streingth between a D44 and 10B.

They are comparable strengthwise , but no the shafts won't interchange , those years not only are the splines different , but so are the lengths . The only things that interchange are the stub shafts , knuckles , and if same size bearing then the spindles too /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif

So are the knuckles, discs and calipers all interchangeable? Shame I can't use the shafts. Lucky I only paid £4.95 for the pair of them then!! (that's about $9.00 to you!)

It looks like you have a flat top knuckle on the 44, so that's cool /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

Cool , I can't even get 1/2 tons for less than 100.00 USD at a yard here /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

As for the brakes being the same , yes . There is only one issue with the front from the knuckle out , the spindles have a small inner bearing until the mid 70's , then a large inner bearing from then until 1991 ( d44 and 10 bolt ) /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif
