Hey!

I have an 88 K5 4X4 350 auto. The transmission is bad and I am ready to start looking for a replacement. I need some help identifying which tranny is in this Blazer.

It's an auto but I do not see any markings or numbers on the case or on the pan. It is pretty surface 'corroded' and somewhat coated with a film of grease/oil and dirt. The Haynes doesn't say much about identifying trannys either.

I know it's got to be the 350, the 400, or the 700R4 but which??

It was going bad when I bought the Blazer so to the best of my knowledge it is a 3 speed with overdrive. (didn't shift correctly past 2nd gear) The indicator has 1, 2, and D with the OD O around the D.

I have been told 700s weren't used in 88s and I've been told that 350s and 400s weren't overdrive. This is just my second Chevy truck so I really have no idea. The 84 K10 I have has the same indicator and does have overdrive, but, I was told it was probably a T350. ???????

Gotta figure this out for the Blazer so I can find a replacement. Does the VIN indicate tranny?

I know you guys can help me out here.

Thanks,
Al

700R-4, otherwise known as the 4L60 by '88.

The last TH350 in a K5 was in '81 or so and the only K5's that ever got the TH400 were the military CUCV's (M1009)
