pulled my ecm to see which one i have. it doesn't have the production broadcast code, just a blank space. it has 8747 in the production number. it was made in canada (aye) by blue streak electronics and it came from an 89 suburban 2500.... reason i'm asking is i'm going to download the ALDL program and want to make sure i get the right version

It's not a '7747? In any case, part number is all you need, thats what you use to get the ALDL definitions, not BCC.

The 8747 is similar to the 7747 but was used on HD trucks. It uses $4d instead of the $42 the 7747 uses. I don't see any ALDL masks for the $4d code, check on thirdgen and see if they have anything. It may be easier to get a 7747 computer and PROM and use the common $42 code. I believe the connectors and pin outs are the same.

i'm not able to find any info at all on this 8747. seems kinda rare, what other ecm's can i use in this truck... 89 suburban 2500 4x4 i tried one that came from a 1988 suburban, but i think it may have been a 1/2 ton and it ran like crap when i tried it, granted it ran like crap anyway cuz the timing was way off.

is it possible to just swap in the 7747 which seems way more common? what i mean by swap is just take the whole ecm and switch it out? or is there more to it?

Crud, looks like diy-efi.org is down. You'll need to compare pinouts of the two.

I see quite a few .bins for the 1228747, a hac for it, but I don't see pinouts. If there are any online, they SHOULD be at diy-efi.org.

From what I read, some of the 8747 bins are setup to operate the TH400 kickdown via a relay.

you're way over my head, what are pinouts? and hac? if it were a diesel engine, i could tell you damn near everything about it, but i'm new to gas stuff

Pinout is simply a diagram that shows what wire does what on a connector, and typically on an ECM diagram, what the wire is for. So a '7747 pinout for example, would simply show all the pins that the wiring harness connects to, and what they do.

A hac is basically where someone has taken the "software" (source code actually I suppose) out of the ECM, so that the important steps/operations can be read by anyone. Since you can read it (kind of lol, most is over my head) that allows you to modify things, and allows programs like winALDL or tunerpro RT to interpret that and allow you to modify them in a more user friendly manner. If that makes any sense.
