well after a few weekends working on it, the blazer has a fresh 400/205 combo. however im a giant dbag and cant get it to start. how the hell do i make damn sure i got my timing right? i just want to start over with the timing now.
its backfiring and sometimes its not. sometimes it turns over and sounds like its just not getting spark.

it is for sure getting spark and my inline fuel filter is full, i can squirt fuel into the carb. also got a new cap rotor and coil.

i have been putting it at tdc and pointing the rotor at number 1 plug but not being sure if im in intake or exhaust stroke.

need some help.

(1) Pull number one spark plug

(2) Stick finger over hole

(3) Have friend quickly give engine a crank until you feel compression start to push your finger away

(4) Now put socket on end of crank bolt and slowly turn engine clockwise until timing mark lines up with pointer

(5) Pull distributor cap and check to make sure the rotor is pointing to where ever your number one plug wire is located

(6) Adjust as required by either pulling and dropping distributor into correct spot or move plug wires on cap accordingly

(7) Put cap back on and make sure plug wires are in proper firing order of 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 in a clockwise rotation

(8) Now start engine and adjust timing with light.
