Idler pulley going bad???

Never had anything like that happen to me. Is there grease on the back of the pulley? Is it making noise? I'm wondering if someone packed grease in the back side for some reason. I assume it just appeared though. It'll make a mess if it gets on the belt and spreads to the other pulleys.

You should wipe it off and see if it comes back or the pulley starts to make noise. I would assume it's gotta be running on some sort of packed bearing. :dunno:

what shape is your coolant in? Does it look like that color? If so, it is probably your water pump getting on the belt and being slung around.

Coolant is fine, changed before blazer bash and just replaced the thermostat last week and and looked good. Seems like this is where most of the goo is, not on the bottom. No overheat problems either. I will have to look and see if I can eye the little hole in the water pump. might be tough with my shroud and everything in the way.

I am gonna pull the belt and see what that is like. It just developed a clicking in one of the pulleys also.

Good Call Jason4X4: Yep water pump bad, I don't drive this around much so probably didn't have time to make the coolant look terrible.

I also found the non-tensioner pully was barely finger tight. So we are off to the parts store, new water pump, check on new pullies, serp belt, gaskets ... the list goes on and on.

Water pump must have just started. I changed thermostats in the last week or so and that gunk wasn't there.

Also found the clutches on the AC unit were bad. So ditch the compressor and got a bypass pulley instead.

Oh well
