If you don\'t have an ORD steering box brace kit...

GET ONE!!!! Wow!!! If fixed a bunch of handleing issues with my truck!! Everything from bump steer to even keeping the body roll down cause it isn't taking off to the side anymore! I'm only running 33's. I don't see how some people who are running bigger tires are surviving without it. Anyway...one of the best mods and talk about some piece of mind knowing that the frame around the box is strenghtened.

Peace and stuff

Re: If you don\'t have an ORD steering box brace kit...

I guess I need to order one for my truck. I am planning to eliminate the oil cooler so that won't be in the way. I don't have much bump steer but the 14.50's seem to want to follow any rut in the road and I can feel the frame flex when I turn.

Wonder if it would help with my 31"s? Sounds like a good idea when I put in my Dana 44.

my oil cooler lines were in the way so I just rebuilt them and re routed them (actually, Nick did that since he works at Napa and stuff

Re: If you don\'t have an ORD steering box brace kit...

I kept my oil cooler as well. I used SS hose and notched the bracket. Works like a charm.

Re: If you don\'t have an ORD steering box brace kit...

If you don't have a sterring brace you are slow in da head or just plain retarted...ORD's bolt in brace fit perfectly without moving any lines on my 84. I guess I was lucky?

What do you mean, it won't fit the factory oil cooler?

I have one on the '85 K30 and do not want to remove it.

How about some pics of the modifications you (Nick!) did to make it work.

Re: If you don\'t have an ORD steering box brace kit...

Hey BlazerBoy, my Blazer with 31" (actually 29") tires had the frontmember cracked. I welded it and installed the ORD brace kit. As muddin said, what a difference!.

The guys at ORD would constantly run out of stock if everyone in this forum realized how important this fix is.

Re: If you don\'t have an ORD steering box brace kit...

Just had to re route the oil cooler lines is all. You don't have to remove it. And drill one hole. I couldn't do the lines cause he didn't want me to play with the fancy machines at work

. LOL! But really it was simple.

Re: If you don\'t have an ORD steering box brace kit...

Maybe it depends on the year, but it fit just fine with my 85 and a factory oil cooler. I'll try to get some pics.

Re: If you don\'t have an ORD steering box brace kit...

I have to agree with muddin. The ORD bolt-in kit fixed a lot of annoying and potentially dangerous steering problems. The bumpsteer is greatly reduced. The ability to drive in a straight line was increased. The steering wheel stays centered even after abusing the frame offroad. And it makes me last for hours and hours in the bedroom. ;)
Seriously, this is the first mod I think someone should make on thier k-anything.

Re: If you don\'t have an ORD steering box brace kit...

This is a definite mod that needs to be done!! If you every plan on off-roading you GM truck or Blazer you need it. Also, if you ever plan on running 33s or bigger tires or ever plan on running on rocks, get the repair kit (even if frame is not already cracked) because you will for sure crack the frame and end up having to buy it later.

Do it right the first time, get both!

Wes, follow this link to see a few pics of the steering brace and how the oil cooler lines are run. One of the pics shows the top of the frame rail and what bolts need to be removed during installation.
