What lift and tire combo would you choose?

I am in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Looking to build up my 1976 Blazer (not my DD) for offroad, first inclination was bigger the better. Wrong!

I am looking for enough lift to have some decent ground clearence and enough suspension travel to do some good trails.

I have a welding machine and a plasma cutter and I am not worried about cutting things off, so that is an option.

P.S. Resurrected Jimmy I paid in my $25.00 It's more than worth the info here!

TIA

Olaf

Man i absolutly love a 4 or 6" lift with the 36x12.5R16 TSL radials. You can drive it to the trail no problem but they are still way good off-road and also pretty tough.

here is mine with 4" and 36's I couldent be happier with this setup. UNLESS it was an offroad only rig in which case i would do 52's up front w/ ford towers, 56" rears with inboard shocks, and shackle flip.

4-6" of suspension lift and 44s. oh wait, that is what I'm doing. :thumb:

seems the most popular for the k5 is a 52 inch spring in the front and anywhere from 52 to 64 inch spring in the rear will give you the most flex for the cheapest route and about 37 to 40 inch tires is the most popular tire size, as for what brand tire thats all up to you, i have ground hawgs and i dont recomend them, are you wantin to rock climb, mud bog, trail or what with your rig? DOH you said trails lmao missed that part, i would keep it low like with the 52s up front equals 4" and a shackle flip in rear, dont forget those beadlocks, i wish i had them all the time, darn skinny ruts

It will probably be mostly trail with some rock crawling, I am looking at SS TSL or maybe BFG muds

I have a 6" susp, 3" body lift with 16.5x14" Welds on 35x16 boggers. I wish I would have just gone with an 8" BDS lift kit, I wouldn't change wheel/tire combo.

Wish I had done a 6" suspension and gotten some 38s.

This is what i went with. Came out awesome. 6" lift springs in front and 4" shackle flip/6" shackle/1" zero rate in rear on 38" TSL's. Works great too and no rubbing after i cut the front fenders.

Someday soon im gonna swap to 42's, maybe slightly more lift.

Considering I've had a couple years to think about it.... :wink1:

I can't go larger than a 38" tire due to state law.... So I'm gonna stay in the 36 to 38 range.. Either a 36 Irok or 37 SSR...

Gonna run 6" total up front, 1" BL, 4" spring and a zero rate...

If I had to do it all over again I would keep it street legal. My truck is awesome offroad but if I even pull it to the end of the driveway the cops pay close attention to what happens next.

52's up front that net 6" of lift. a Dynatrac pro rock high pinion 60 with an ARB. 56's in the rear that net 2" lift with a zero rate, 6" shackles and a 2.5" shackle flip. a 14 bolt with Detroit. all this in a blazer running a FI 383, built 700R4, 4 speed atlas. 4.56 gears in the axles and 40" Iroks. crossover, hydro assist, aluminum beadlocks.

I could have this rig. except I blew tons of money building it the wrong way several different times before this site even existed.:doah: I learned a lot building tricks the hard way. some of the stuff listed I have or had.

Oh Man

If i had to do it over, i would have only gone with a 10" suspension lift no body lift.. and 44" boggers, and a arb in the front of my 60 instead of a detroit...
