I have been thinking about doing an IFS coversion on my '90 burb. Has anyone here done this? I really like the idea of the smooth ride IFS privides. The trails up here are very rough and the solid front axle (D60) really beats me up. Here are some of the questions I have on this swap:

1. What years could I get the IFS from?

2. Will I need to know how to weld or will it be bolt-on?

3. Can I use the IFS from a '90 C20 Suburban and just install the outer stub shafts?

4. Can I use the 6" lift leaf springs or will I need to get some coils?

I am sure I will have more questions as this progresses, so please bare with me. Thanks in advance for all the help! This should be interesting.

I am posting this on Pirate for entertainment sake. Enjoy!

NOT worth it.

A lot of fab work is involved in this.

Work with someone to get a set of springs in the front that are custom made and put a shock setup on it like a 2" sway away, King, Fox and it will be almost the same without all of the cost and fab headaches.

Rough trails are not friendly to IFS. Actually it's not the trail, it's when you try to put the power to the trail. If you want an IFS rig, it'd be cheaper easier to start with an IFS truck.

Or get a set of softer springs and some quallity shocks.

But if you do decide to attempt this, I'm interested in the outcome.

Edit: Not to be mean or anything, but the guys at Pirate will probalby eat you alive. Just saying expect some negative feed back from them.

You guys need a reading lesson! Check the last line of my post.

Keep the straight axle but link it with coils. That'll help the ride a lot.:saweet: Then you could swap the D60 out and put in a D30, because a lighter axle will ride better.
Nice job putting that on Pirate. That should be some quality entertainment.:D

so are you actually going to try this or are you just having some fun with them over on pirate?

I'm throwing the B.S flag. No one is that dumb.( Although , it is funny too see the "Hardcore" guys get their panties in a wad)

I don't post on pirate either but Tuesdays are flog noobies days or something... I don't remember I'm old damn it.:doah:

I'm scribed to this, I want to convert my 95 burb to IFS, and get rid of that awful A arm suspension system.

Well, I came clean and am awaiting the wrath of Pirate. Maybe a Seal Team will rescue me.
