I am considering doing an SAS on my 96 diesel Burb. I am trying to decide if it is worth the work and money. Right now the truck has a mild torsion bar crank and 33's on it. It rides ok. So one option is to do a body lift, go with 35's and call it a day. The other is an SAS and maybe go to 37's.

My question is this: With the IFS, what causes more strain, the lift kit, or the bigger tires themselves? If I can fit 35's with my current setup and not touch the suspension, will I still have the problems that lifted IFS rigs are known for? Or is the lift kit itself the real problem?

I am trying to justify spending thousands instead of hundreds for a rig that is really an all purpose rig, with only occasional wheeling.

tellya body lift on deisel trucks sucks from all the extra stuff on them.

ifs lift kit = big bucks but good if you get knuckle lift kit and 1 or 2 peice lower frame drop brackets.

sas best for hd stuff but cost is a lot but payoff in end prob best for all around. if you want offroad use and dont think of ifs parts.

also you will need ford axle for the sas or lots of mods for pass side tcase drop swap and exaust redo and few other parts.

Definatley not doing an IFS lift. Both kinds are known for being nothing but trouble. I'll either leave it alone or rip it out entirely. While I am fully aware of all that goes into an SAS, I don't know what is involved with the body lift. I know the air intake is a problem, but I am running an open element, no airbox, so that helps. What else is there to worry about?
