i installed a new ignition switch in my truck and a new starter at the same time, now when i go to start it for the first time everyday it keeps cranking until it fires up, it keeps cranking even if you let off the key. but after it starts the 1st time, it neverdoes it again until it has been sitting for a long while, it works just like normal. i have checked the solenoid wire and it checks out and i have also tested the starter seperate and no probs......what gives???

I'd guess the starter drive gear sticks in the flywheel teeth, due to too little clearence(add a shim and see if it helps),splines on the aramature are dirty or burred up,..or the solenoid and the fork that engage the starter drive unit are binding, and holding it engaged until the engine fires, and "kicks" it back to its released position..

The ignition swich has slots for the screw holes to allow for a little play adjustment. You may have it adjusted just too far up the column and it's sticking on. Just a thought. You could check this though by finding the solenoid wire on the switch and see if it remains hot when you release from start position.

like i said before i tested the ignition switch with a voltmeter, and the starter is brand new, i also tested it, after the 1st go around it never does it again until the next day, you can turn it on and off as many times in a row and it never does it again after the initial startup
