Ok so today i have finally gone through my third module.. I know this is a common problem but does anyone know what causes them to go? Also is there an aftermarket option that doesnt seem to go every 1-2 years?

x2 on the goop ... though it should be silicone heat-transfer goop, not so much a dielectric insulating goop.

The ignition module generates a lot of heat, more than it can dissipate on its own, so you want to make sure it's solidly attached to the dizzy. That means the thermal goop between it and the dizzy, so as to transfer the heat, as well as the screws being fairly tight.

check your coil wires. mine used to do the same thing about once every 4 months. ended up being one of the wires coming off the coil was arching over and grounding out. try running the truck without the coil cover on it and rev it up a few times just to eliminate that issue. soon as i found that..... 4 years later and still using the same distributor with no problems

The brand is the standard autozone crap. Gonna get a acdelco replacement. The goop was applied and i will check for tightness. Will check the coil wires and will probably replace the pick up coil just to cover myself
