Hello all,
I have an 89 blazer 350TBI that I am attempting to tune-up. I'm not quite sure of what kind of ignition I have, HEI or DI. From what I can see, the engine and components seem to be stock. I would really appreciate any information on my ignition and what kind of cap, rotor, and spark plug wires to buy. Thanks.

HEI. I use Accell wires,Acdelco plugs, and Accell cap n rotor.

I feel kind of sheepish for asking this question, but what is a DI ignition? I've only known HEI. No picking on me either!!!!

You should have a GM HEI ignition with a REMOTE COIL .Dont buy the dist cap with the coil on top .It wont fit. The HEI ignition with the coil on top of the distributor is used mainly in carbeurated models.
I use Accell cap, rotor, and plugs in my 89k5 but I'v never had very good luck with accell Plug wires I dont like them
8 or 8.5 mm MSD or Taylor wires are an excelent choice. Or just go with stock AC Delco parts they are good quality.Just make sure to use 8mm or larger wires.Smaller wires wont carry the voltage. Stay away from the cheapo stuff !!!

The DI (distributor ignition )is used on the newer Gm trucks(93-98) It has all kinds of sensors and is controled by the computer.
Edited by Thunder on 01/28/01 11:11 AM (server time).
