I'm new to the world of the Full size Blazer's & Jimmy's, I recently acquired a 1988 GMC Jimmy with less than 93,000 miles in need of some minor rust repair. It has the 350 TBI engine in it with the small remote mount coil distributor, I'm having a minor ignition issue & one of my buddies suggested an MSD ignition system with the trigger box & the works. I'm just curious what MSD system is right for my Jimmy, and if anyone has done one of these conversions?

Maybe you should further explain your minor ignition issue

The truck has a funky idle, some one put an excel ignition system in this Jimmy at one point in its life and I don't believe its running right cause my 1988 silverado had the same style TBI 350 in it and it never had a strange idle. it feels to me that it might have a slight miss. But beings is this Jimmy is gonna be my daily I want it to be reliable beings is im transporting my better 1/2 & 2 small children around.

Start with the basics. Compression test, new plugs, cap and rotor, wires. Not saying an MSD is or isn't what you need. Just saying that GM made a really good ignition system factory. Not likely to be an ignition issue if everything is in good working order. Who knows about that other ignition though

well there was paperwork that i got with this particular jimmy and the current engine was a crate engine that was installed less than 8,000 miles ago, im gonna do the plugs tomorrow, I've already checked for vacuum leaks and there was none, I ordered an EGR control solenoid & replaced the air filter. I'll have the control solenoid on friday and I will check back in thru out the course of the week!
