Ignition

Ok guys I am stuck. My wife's 89 I backed it up in the driveway to move somethings and shut it off. When I started it up and tried to put it in gear and it wouldn't go other thatn reverse. I thought it was tranny so I disconnected the lever and shifted the tranny fine. When I tried to shut it off the ignition would not shut off it is stuck on. I had to pull the fuse to get the motor too shut off. Any ideas why the ignition won't turn . Help.

Ignition switch maybe

If the key goes to the "off" position, I would guess that the rod in the ignition switch on the column has come out, or the contacts in the switch are welded.

Happened to mine I just replaced the ignition switch and that cured it.

mxfireman you were right. Went to Checker got an ignition and bam it works. Thanks guys.
