Found this article, it's one of my stomping grounds and pisses me off.
Big off road gathering without permit. Mostly SxS, causing trouble. This is what gets it shut down for all of us. It's the usual problems, no respect for public lands and off road etiquette.
This area is great, and was relatively unknown.

Is it just coincidence that the only cargo most sxs are designed to carry is a cooler?

What the organizers should have done is arrange for camping on private land, then access the public lands from there. I'm just guessing that if you apply for a permit to camp 100 people in the middle of public lands there's a lot of red tape. It also gets dicey if you charge for the event, as you can't charge to take people across state/national forests or to camp there. Again, part of why you need a piece of private property.

Yeah stuff like this hurts all responsible off road types. What’s odd to me is why nobody got a ticket, citation or anything to give everyone that showed a reason not to come back next year.

Zero deterrent. It’s as if they sent Barney Fife up there to say hi and welcome them on into the forest. What’s there to keep these clowns from coming back and inviting more people?

The article said that the information was not given to the reporter if they ticketed anyone, doesn't mean they didn't20250717_153733.jpg

Yeah that shit sucks! I camp and ride a lot but stuff like that is crap. The county is live in is pushing outdoor tourism real hard to replace the coal industy. It just brings way more dumbasses from the city and way more destruction and garbage. No one steps up the cleaning and patrolling anywhere either to help control things and there is almost zero trail maintenance done.

We camped in the desert earlier this year and had people pulling in making new camps wherever they wanted just driving anywhere off actual roads and camping right next to us. So annoying when you are trying to get away and enjoy the outdoors.

We leave behind nothing but tire tracks and few drips of oil. I can't stand finding trash in the woods or toilet paper on the ground. I also don't understand idiots cutting down trees for firewood. First of all, a living tree is terrible firewood. Anyone thinking things through would realize that if everybody coming by cut down a tree, it wouldn't be a forest anymore. Find some deadfall or haul something in. Cut your wood before it's dark and you're a scaredy-cat to leave the glow of the campfire. Another novel concept is to let it burn down and go to bed.

On the bright side, campers in RVs *should* be hauling their own poop out and trash, but it's amazing how ignorant people can be.

I did a number of camping trips with our church in Colorado. For the first one, they did not require a permit if under 75 people. It was free, so I pulled one and had 2 out houses delivered to the remote area for the weekend. We pulled 2 truck loads 30 gallon trash bags of trash out of the area. 70 pounds of brass hauled out. The kids got a penny per casing they picked up. We were very careful to teach them not to pick up non discharged rounds.

I got a call from the forest service Tuesday after that event. We were welcome to come back whenever. They had not seen the area that clean in years.

We were back in that area wheeling a month later. A bunch of out of state SXS's were camped there. It was a mess.
