I\'m a dead man

My ol lady is gonna shoot me dead.
I just pulled the block out and was removing the pistons and crank.
That went well untill I was starting clean up on the block and a corner of the #2 main cap register fell off.
I swear if she says you should have built the 454 one more time I'll shoot myself.
She's takin a nap at the moment so I will have a few brews and tell her the whole friggin thing is a wash when she wakes up.
I'm gonna be popular tonight.
I just got off the phone with Milodon and there is no fix for that other than welding and machining the register.
I'm seriosly thinking of sending a 12 ga 3" mag slug through the side of the f*cker at the moment.
Feelin a lil irritated at the moment. /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif

Re: I\'m a dead man

lol...I told mine I was going out to adjust the rockers, she comes out 2 hours later to find the engine out of the truck, AND stripped down for a rebuild /forums/images/graemlins/yikes.gif. I feel your pain. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Re: I\'m a dead man

Sorry but what is a cap register? Iether way it sounds like it sucks man good luck with the old ball and chain though and the motor /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif

Re: I\'m a dead man

There is the main cap, where the cap sits in the block is machined for the cap.
That is the register, that is what locates the main bearing and keeps the cap from moving around.
OH and this is a Hencho in Mexico long block with 4500 miles on it.
Put this on yer list of what not to buy.. /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif

Re: I\'m a dead man

Not all is a loss, the machine shop that is going to balance the whole works can align the crank and install a dowel for that cap to locate it.
Shhh I just won't tell the ol lady about it. LOL
So much for just putting it together to make the mud run coming up. /forums/images/graemlins/ignore.gif
It looks like the build up is still in the works with pics.
I'll be sure to include that repair as well as how much it costs.
Ya know she is right.. I should have not even screwed around and just built the BBC.
But at this point I have way to much invested in it to scrap it and I will never tell her she is right when it comes to plants LOL
I would never hear the end of it.

Re: I\'m a dead man

are you like mentally deficient? I muyst ask why you didn't build the BBC? I can only guess it was a $$ thing? I mean if the old lady gives the go ahead and in fact says YOU SHOULD build a bbc I would build a BBC.

Re: I\'m a dead man

Good point that some may be wondering..
My buddy scraps rigs, I get first pic on goodies that roll in(No D60's yet).
The 305 gave it up and I needed a fast drop in.
He had a van show up that had been sittin since 96 in a feild, we found the engine and tranny work in the glovebox.
Both new and with warranties.
The engine was a new GM 4 bolt main from the factory.
Todays prices on that is around $1300. It had 4500 miles on it.
The old man also had a HD spring set up installed at the same time.
The morons at the shop routed the fuel line wrong and it got pinched off and ran like crap.
The ol man parked it and just bought a 1 ton duely. He was haulin horse trailers with it.
So the long and short.. I seen a new long block that was supposed to be a drop in and go.
I rebuilt the tranny and t-case and did the required upgrades to the t-case while out.
THAT plant was supposed to be a mule untill I could rebuild the 454.
Ya know, buy a few parts here and there untill I had enough to put it together.
And still be able to drive the K5.
Now it is a full on mouse project.
Not what I wanted at the moment but that is what I have to work with.

Re: I\'m a dead man

$250 for the machine work.
Not to bad.
$175 to have it balanced from damper to flywheel.
The rest to fix the cap.
All is good.
