Well i did my first front brake job on mt truck myself. I really did not save as much money as i could the other times that i do it because i had to buy some tools but no i have them and can do it again when i need to. All went well and i just test drove it and its brakes great and no more vibrations. Only thing to remember for peopel who are doing it for the first time is that the second lock nut has a little pin ointing out that you have to line up with a hole in the washer on the outside of that.

Over all, all things went great and were a breeze. I will always do it myself now and will be happy to pass on how to. I just want to say thank you to all you guys who helped me walk me throught it this first learning experience. Thats one of the biggest reasons im on this site, to learn so i can be a DIY'er

Why did you have to remove the bearing hub to do the brake? Or did you replace the rotor also?

with the right tools, they can be easy.

It doesn't even take any real special tools, just patience. Take your time, do one side at a time, and drum brakes can be easy. The first time through can be a little intimidating, but if you can handle doing the fronts with replacing the rotors, you can certainly handle doing the rear drum brakes. And you can always ask us any questions you may have.

You get the tool for the rear drums. It looks like a long pair of pliers and it will make doing the rear springs a snap. But you got to know how to use them for it to work.

My wifes grand father showed me how to use them. I have those same pair I got then. Over the summer of 86. So 21 years ago and I have used them 100's of times. Those springs and pins are a snap with it. I wish I could explain how to use them but it would look like a book.

i just did my first drum brakes on a 69 impala ss last week !!it was fun!!LOL

if a 16 year old punk such as my self can do it you can too!
