I just don't know which one. I also don't have more than 20 minutes of welding experience in my whole life.

So....

I need a GOOD starter unit.

Having 110v/220v capability is a must, as the garage isn't wired for 220 yet. Big emphasis on yet, because it will get wired.

I have been watching some of Finnegan's Garage on the YouTube and saw that Miller 215 unit, which looks "so simple even a Justin V could do it", but at $1449 MSRP, it looks like over a couple grand once I get a helmet, jacket, gloves, gas, cart, wire, etc.

And at that price the TIG stuff is still extra, but I suppose I can get it later, as MIG is the main concern at the moment.

Oh yeah, the welder will be for truck stuff, so probably 1/4" capable would be fine, maybe 3/8" but when do we really need 3/8" thick metal on our rigs? Diff cover? I'll just buy that...

Any input from you guys will be appreciated.

Lincoln mp210 is what i have, it really is a great machine

Any good name brand welder.

Really. No cheapies or Chinese knockoffs.

Miller, Lincoln, Hobart, Esab, HTP, to name a couple.

Build a cart after you buy the welder. It's a great first project.

i have both a lincoln 140 and a 216 . 1 is a 110 unit and other is a big 220 unit . i love both of them . https://ck5.com/forums/threads/the-lincoln-family-i-did-what.318445/

that being said i can do a LOT with my 140 110volt unit . its all in prep and super thick needs a little pre-heat is all and good bevel on edges to get good hot/bead layed in there . like this one i did here https://ck5.com/forums/threads/tow-truck-ice-spades-____-i-made.325006/

the 110volt tech has come a LONG way on these units these days . so dont pass up a good deal on a quality 110volt unit .

Love my Miller 211Mvp, I also like my hobart 140. I really have no need for the 140, but still keep it as it was my first wirefeed.

Still moving things into new shop. Getting things setup. I'm allowed to slide for alittle bit yet. Bottles are in corner and whip was off for transport.

ESAB Rebel is no more really then Miller 215 and everyone I have talked on it says Great machine!
