So we are moving in 2 weeks into our house that we had built. A while back the wife made me sell my truck for a nice washer and dryer and misc things. I have the itch again for another jimmy or blazer and this time I even have a Garage to put it in for work. Also our faimly cabin out in Colorado is close to Westcliffe and I have 2 young boys and a wife I would like to do some faimly wheeling. So these are the questions I would propose

1. Question is would it be better to look for a rust free truck in say AZ or fix one locally. I have a nice 175 tig machine and I know how to use it but I havent done much body work with it.

2. What protective measures should I do to a new truck so i dont kill my faimly in case of a roll over. Rollbar at the least but If i do a cage will i still be able to use the top and not have to spider monkey into the back seat to get the kids put in the car seats.

3. Is there some Van seats or something that I can use up front that are
really comfey with armrests Im a sucker for cozy 80's captains chairs :)

I guess this is a pointless post but I had to post/do something its going to burst out of me like a sceen in aliens soon if I dont. BTW thanks Obama for the free 6,500 bucks for buying a new house ill be sure to buy a new truck with the cash :)

SledheadAk swears buy late 90's astro van seats I guess they damn near bolt in

How major like refab the whole seat base or something a little less? Building a boxed seat base dosent seem like it would be too big of a deal. I can just feel the loving arms of a overly plush conversion van seat wrapping me up while i putter down the road.

na its not that bad just had to use the new bracket and drill new holes. it can be done

Floor is differnt in a burb

Blazer/jimmy is flat.
Suburban/and crew cab front floors are the same.
Pickups and Crew cab rear seat floors are the same

I know that Pauly had a set of Astro seats in his Blazer. The only thing he mentioned is that you have to put new bolts in, as only one will match up. I currently have an Astro sitting at my house that may be the donor for Krusty's new front seats. It is a nice custom version though so the seats are big plush captains chairs.

I just finished installing 02 Silverado seats in my truck last night. 110% more comfortable than the stock buckets. I took pics of the process, it was fairly straightforward. I'll be doing a lil write up on it and posting the pics, hopefully tonight or within the next day or so...

Go with a rust free truck for sure. Dont bring on the problems of rust if you dont have to. When the body is rusted... the underside already has issues not seen right away.

Living in MI and recently getting a few southern vehicles... I will never start a project on a northern truck again.

In MI... you just replace every bolt when you take it out... it WILL be rusted. Many times... just take the impact and snap the bolts. Minus well make it fast! The southern trucks... I could actually reuse bolts!!! Imagine that!

You have a cabin near Westcliffe? I love the wet mountain valley. We go there every year. If you go up towards Hermit basin there will be a road to the right before you get there. It will curve around and go up a single lane big rock road that will go up Spread Eagle. At the top there is an awesome campground with an awesome waterfall near it.

Our cabin is in Rosita and Ya that whole area is pimpin my oldest 2yo boy got a kick out of it last summer. We have been taking the wifes s-10 blazer up there but every time we go up the mountain in that thing, it comes down with a problem i think.
