Re: I\'m Moving !!!! - A Cross-Country Adventure!!!

welcome fellow ck5'er , to the glory land of NEW HAMPSHIRE. i don't know what part your planning on moving to but i can say that after living in mass for most of my life NH is great, only vt has better truck laws /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif . up here your frame can be no higher than 30" from the ground front and back. however after a quick visit to the concord dmv and a nice chat with a very cool state cop, i learned that you may change things around (ie- cut/slice frame whatever) to alter your final height. so long as it is according to "sound enginering principles"

i'd love to help in any way i can so let me know if you need /forums/images/graemlins/1zhelp.gif moving in or whatever /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

as you might have already read, there is a ck5 meet and greet thing going on up here in dec. milspecjimmy is putting it together. so far there seems to be 10 or so of us makeing the ride to conway NH on the 14th. this is the first time i belive any of us have gotton together, i look forward to it and i'am sure buy the time you get out here we'll have found some good wheeling spots. (i just moved up myself from mass)

good luck on the drive, it took me 4 days to drive from eastern mass to portland oregon this fall. i moved my sister there and let me say that driveing a toy corolla for 10+ hours a day is lame /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Re: I\'m Moving !!!! - A Cross-Country Adventure!!!

hey greg,
here is my adventure, when i went to colorado springs in the army, all i owned was in the trunk of my car, 6 years later, it took, one 26 foot uhaul, one 15 foot uhaul and another 26 foot that i split with a friend that was moving to the same general area, i sold a camaro and tornado and 74 blazer and 77 k10, and moved 76 and 79 k10's and sentra and cutlass, i put an ad in the thrifty nickel to sell off my extra parts and had people calling thinking i was one of the shops going out of business!!
so my advice is to sell whatever you can part with, if you ship some vehicles it would be cheaper to ship the cars than the blazers, or use two uhauls, trailer the blazers, and fly back and drive the cars!!
i hope all works out well for you and if you were coming through texas i would meet up, but not the most direct route, LOL

Re: I\'m Moving !!!! - A Cross-Country Adventure!!!

Greg,

Wow! /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif .... this is crazy news..! I thought I was gonna get a chance to "FunBuggy" in the Pismo dunes w/ you someday...! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Maybe just have to send you the pics afterwards.. :Ouchthatonehurt: ..../forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Think about how much and what kind of wheelin' you can get into in New Hampshire... then sell off accordingly... If your truck is built for CA stuff, then CA guys will appreciate the mods more than they might in NH...??!? possibly makin' it worth more in CA...?!? Don't really know, I'm just rambing... /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Best of luck to you and your family...

Marv /forums/images/graemlins/pimp1.gif

Re: I\'m Moving !!!! - A Cross-Country Adventure!!!

Good luck to ya!

We moved from Oregon (where our family get togethers are 40+ people) to Western Pa (New Castle, near Emmetology) for 3 years and could not wait to get back out here, mostly due to the family thing. Since you grew up back east (I did too, in NY), you know what you're getting into...........weather is soooooooooo different than out west (what's humidity?), winters are winter, salt on the roads SUCKS /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif. I'd suggest keeping the K5's in the garage ALL winter and having an AWD vehicle for the snow............that is not optional. My K5 spent two winters there, and even after being undercoated heavily I found cancer spots.

The ideal setup is having a job in NH and have them move ya............. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

By the way, I have a bud friend from Metheun, MA, and according to him, real estate is HIGH..............maybe NH is different? Then again, compared to Cal might be LOW............ /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

Re: I\'m Moving !!!! - A Cross-Country Adventure!!!

Ted,

I don't think I'll be in NH in December, but that doesn't mean I can't start figuring out "who's who" in the state!

I grew up in Keene, NH and went to college up in Plymouth... so I do have a good idea of what I'm up against culturally, and weatherwise!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I suspect we'll end up in Keene or on it's outskirts since I'm trying to stay close to my family (that's the southwest corner of the state in case you didn't know)

I'm looking forward to less "strenuous" state laws regarding smog, etc. And the fact that California gas is both expensive and so heavily oxygenated that it's amazing it burns at all!!!! I'm looking forward to my 'ol Sunoco 94 octane thankyouverymuch!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Re: I\'m Moving !!!! - A Cross-Country Adventure!!!

Rod,

For your benefit, I will tell you that the house will be listed at $640,000 in early December.

For those of you in California, you know that a price like that doesn't mean much....it's just a sad reality of the area we live in. It's 2100sf / 3 bedrooms / 3 bathrooms / .33 acres and the detached "Man Space" (roughly another 1000 sq ft).

Anywhere else, this house should not sell for more than maybe 175,000 or 200,000 TOPS! It still takes my breath away to think that I voluntarily carried almost a half-million dollars in debt for the "privilege" of having a house in the Bay Area.

I still have to believe that a few CK5 bachelors could easily pull together and buy this place, split the mortgage and share that amazing workshop to get their rigs built! If three guys split the expenses, it would probably be cheaper than renting an apartment....and they'd have a pool too. Talk about the Hugh Heffner experience!!!

Re: I\'m Moving !!!! - A Cross-Country Adventure!!!

640,000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
man, it takes my breath away too, and i didn't even have anything to do with it /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif

Re: I\'m Moving !!!! - A Cross-Country Adventure!!!

I bet you could own half of Texas for that price!!!!!

/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: I\'m Moving !!!! - A Cross-Country Adventure!!!

Good luck with the move man. NH is wayyy up there, and I'm sure it's brrr brrr cold!! You'll definately have to hit up some east coast trail rides now though!
Boss

Re: I\'m Moving !!!! - A Cross-Country Adventure!!!

buy a huge parcel of land and open a wheeling ranch for all to come and play /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: I\'m Moving !!!! - A Cross-Country Adventure!!!

well last year i bought a house in the KC area, talk about different price! i have a 4 br, 2 1/2 bath, sided split 3 level with a Real 2 car garage, that will fit my blazer with 5.5 lift and 35s nice lot, in an area that has the best schools in the Metro and in Kansas, for under $140k I do have to drive about 25 mins to work in traffic.
But if you drive down I 70 you can meet all the guys from the KC area!!! /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
