I'm So FED UP With V Belts!!!

Easy conversion. While you are changing your water pump out, consider getting a 97+ high volume 6.5L pump instead :)

A: Are your pulleys aligned?

B: How much wrap around on the alternator belt? Is it shared with the plow's hydraulic pump?

C: Most people I've seen over tighten v-belts. If a little tight is good (huff) than really (huff) tight (huff) must be (huff) BETTER!!! (HUFF!). Whew... gotta get that sucker *REAL* tight, ya know? :doah: Over tightening v-belts=bad. Don't do it.

x2

I had 6.2 eating alternator belt, one/year. One did snap, others I changed when they got too skinny. Then one day I started to look whats wrong in there, and since that engine got accessories from numerous engines, I figured that lower alt bracket wasn't right for my engine. So, I decided to modify it a little. When I loosened bolts from water pump, I noticed that alt made a small move, and when I looked at it, pulley was dead straight to water pump and crank pulleys.

Lower alt bracket has big enough holes at the w/p end that it is easy to screw up the pulley alignement.

I had probs with my 305 Plow Truck when I installed a 100 amp monster alt. The belts were misaligned, and only the junk $5 belt would stay on.
This isn't the case here... I hope. I installed a larger "metric" alt, and had to make my own rear bracket that has the spacer for the lower bolt. I used nine washers to get the alignment rite.
I also tighten the belt just until the pulley won't spin with finger pressure on the fan. I agree that prolly something isn't quite rite, but plowing is the hardest use for the belt. On my 305 I used the smaller Cadillac solid pulley which has less surface and therefore less grab.
I am thinking of installing this pulley on the 6.2 because I've got the annoying speed activated regulator because of a junk wiring harness. That regulator needs a good rev to start charging. ANNOYING!
I agree with the >97 hi vol water pump, and prolly two tstat housing.
Anybody got one or two???
Oh yeah, the pump runs off the fan, so it's dragging on the alt. Not a help. If I think of it, I'll make a vid of the belt tension...
