I\'m swapping in a 14 bolt...swap questions...

I convinced my guitarist's dad that he doesn't need those axles under his 85 3/4 ton Suburban, so I'm gonna swap my 1/2 ton stuff for his 3/4 ton. Now, question is, I bought the 4" Skyjacker kit. I know the front will still work, no problem. On the back, though, all I need to do is swap U-bolts and spring plates, right? Also, he's giving me some Hummer tires along with rims, those 36/12.50/16.5 will fit under a 4" kit, right?

yes the 36s will work i used to run a 4" and 36x12.50s. i'm up to 7" now.

You will need the U-bolts and top plates. The ones on a 1/2-ton are too small. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif Other than that, and a crossover U-joint in the back, it's a bolt in affair. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I'm a little skeptical on the 4" with 36's deal. I'm running a 3" lift with some 315/75's and a decent amount of trimming and they hit pretty hard on the trail when I'm turning. Of course there's no end to the sheet metal you can remove on a GM but keep in mind it'll take a good bit of metal removal to make it work. You will need to cut back the inner fender a bit too. It's not really a big deal, just extra cutting.

I'm currently runnng those same Hummer tires on a 4" lift. I've cutout my front fenders. Before that, I hit them every time I went off road & some times even on road. Anyway, just my $0.02.

I can only say I had to do some trimming with those same tires and a 6" suspension lift.

Well, I've decided to put a 3" body lift on it to clear the tires...I don't wheel very hardcore, so it should do fine. Thanks to all for the advice!

You know I tried leaving the swaybar hooked up on this last trip to keep the tires out of the fenders and the ride quality was so bad I unhooked it and drove more careful to keep the front axle from twisting too much. I was much happier that way than beating myself up with the bar hooked up.
