Imbedding photos without web hosting...the "Manage Attachments" feature...

Being one of the "old dogs" around this forum sometimes works against me.

Today for the first time, I realized that it's possible to directly take images from your own computer and load them directly into a thread WITHOUT using a 3rd party photo hosting site like Photobucket.

All you have to do is go to "Go Advanced" when creating a thread and use the "Manage Attachments" button to directly browse to photos on your desktop, C: drive, whatever.... a lot simpler than what I've been doing for YEARS (resize originals to 800x600, upload to web gallery, link them over with the "properties" data, etc)

The only catch is that I can't figure out how to get the photos mixed with the text I'm writing, they only show up in a "Attached Images" area at the bottom of the thread I write..... (example of random photos below)

How do I get:

Paragraph of text

Photo 1

Another paragraph of text

Photo 2

...

...



Anyone know?

You don't. The attached images will always be lumped at the bottom as far as I know. That's just one downfall of attached images. Another is that they are limited, in other words I believe you are limited to a set amount of mb's or whatever, for your sum of photos attached. You will have to eventually delete some to attach more over time. So, if you prior ones are posted in a thread that is used as a "tech" post, it will become useless without the photos for those who may try to use it.

True that.. lol. I've dropped back to non donator for a few days now, and that's a pain. But, oh well..

As of right now my K5 is a lady in waiting, so I don't see the point in keeping my membership for right now. It just makes more sense to wait until I'm ready to get back on the K5.

Greg, if you place the cursor where you want your picture inserted, just click the little paperclip icon and select the image you want too insert. You need to upload them first though. I've been doing that in my thread for a while now.

Yeah, I just gave up on this method and sent about 1000 build photos to a Photobucket account.

It's going to be a pain repairing all the broken links in my threads, but I want the photos to be permanent, and the idea of deleting some to make room for newer ones is pretty lame.

I've got the last 180 posts in the "Might As Well" thread cleaned up with new repaired links, but I still have about 500 more to go..... ugh.

Yeah, if you only have a few to upload it's no biggy, .. but when you have a lot, it feels like work. All you can do is tackle 'em one at a time. They'll eventually get done.
