Well I got a new to me air compressor. Its a portercable compressor that belonged to my dad. All I have to do is replace the piston and sleeve and it will be brand new. :D

Anyways, on to the point of the post.

I want to get a 1/2" drive impact. I want to buy one that will last but wont break the bank.

What has done yall right?
Where should I look?
How much can I expect to pay?
Please give the specs of the impacts yall use as far as drive and forward/reverse tourqe ect.

Thanks yall.

Just buy one that has the Ingersol Rand logo on the side and you'll be happy. :) The cheap ones just don't have the power to do much in the way of real work. :( Yes, it will cost more up front, but you'll be using it for the next 50 years or so. :)

IR 2135TI. You can find 'em on eBay for a little over $200.

650+ ft/lbs TQ in reverse, 4-stage selectable power setting in forward. Only 3.5lbs; won't break your wrist.

It is ABSOLUTELY worth saving a few extra bucks for... you won't regret it.

Deffinately dont cheap out on a heavy duty impact. I would recomend avoiding cambell-hausfeld. My roommate has one that I have seriously never been able to remove a bolt with. I have a craftsman rated for about 500 ft. lbs. that I am prety happy with. I havent come across anything that it couldnt handle yet. I have an old Rockwell too but its old and a little worn and isnt quite as good as the craftsman. I am probably going to get a smaller impact soon, for lighter work where I have to hold it longer. Probably a 3/8 drive one. 3 pounds gets prety heavy after awhile and you dont always need the fist of god to remove bolts.

Go Check Out Your Local Pawn Shops . I Got A Blue Point( Snap-on) For 50 Bucks. Seen A Lot Of Ingersol Rands At Them Also. Would Not Give For My Blue Point It Will Pull The Lugs Off Of A Semi . Ive Done It.

2135TI IR when I got mine my MAC was sent home. I have been using the IR for about 3 years great impact worth every penny.

I have Craftsman. But I've heard nothing but good about IR and my next will be IR
If you look at 'em really close, it appears that the more expensive Craftsman models are really IR's with a Craftsman logo on them. :)

I have one of the Home Depot Husky impacts (the cheaper one) and it SUCKS!!!. I have to turn the regulator on my tank way up to get it to have any torque at all. My old cheap a$$ china impact that cost $25 made more torque then this Husky I have now.

I have used 2 different IR's in the past and they ROCK!!!!!!!!!! When I get in a position to replace my junk Husky it will be with one of the good IR's.

I've had an IR 244 for several years. It works great, my only complaint is that it tore up some of my cheep impact sockets and broke a few chrome ones. I guess that's not really a bad thing, though:D

ive got the IR 2135ti, had it for about 2 years, only let me down once and thats when i threw it across the shop and the bottom broke where the air fitting is, gave it to the MAC guy and i got a new one warranty. now just about every guy in the shop has one, its well worth the money

yet another vote for the 2135Ti.

i havent found a bolt yet that will stop it. it'll either take it off the right way, or it'll snap it off.
