ok silly question i know but im gonna ask it anyhow. ive got a 86 k5 with a stock 350 other than a 1405 edelbrock 600, 8 inch lift 4.56 gears and 36s with a 4 speed manual. she wants to cruise at 50-55 and burns a hell of alot more gas when i have to go to highway speeds ie 65mph+. any ideas on getting a little better miles per gallon? maybe change gears or go to a taller tire? its not a money issue its more of i get tired or having to go to the gas station when im driving from marietta ga to rockmart. seems like its burning 50 bucks every 125 miles lol

Well you have to do the math.. Too be honest I think you have too much gear for the tire.

Long ago I was running a 305, th350, np208 3.08's and 33's and I was getting 16 mpg daily.

What are you getting. I thing if your doing highway, you should have more of a 4.10 personally (i know guys will disagree, but i personally think everyone over gears)

you could go with a taller tire, but it may be a moot point,

i would either tune up your 350, change your driving style (no jack rabbit starts and early shifting, keeping revs low)

around town--smaller tire and lower speeds

highway keep current tire and bring the gearing down to around 4.10

again im sure people will disagree with me, but i drive hills and highways everyday so fuel mileage was important..lift height doesnt help either (started with moving a brick through the air, lifted now your moving a house)
