lets say my 88 k5 were to experience a roll over.. wheeling, ice, whatever.. I think i read somewhere that there is an integrated roll bar built into the roof, but is the back seat going to get crushed or is the roof high enough to bridge the gap between itself and the tail gate.. Trying to decide if i should spend the $$ on a roll cage...

Spend the money.

The "integrated" cage is more or less double wall reinforced sheet metal. For a "light" rollover, the cab by itself will probably hold up enough to protect the front seats but almost certainly be ruined. I also don't think the roof is tall enough to prevent the rear from collapsing to the top of the seat back.

Especially if you were to roll just as the cab passed an obsitlce like a tree, log, big rock, etc. The cab would be fine, probably, but the rear seat passangers would be squished.

I can say from personal experience that these toppers do not hold up well in a rollover. Get the cage!

Wow.. thats the kind of thing i needed to hear. Im glad you walked away from that roll. I won't put my wife or kid in mine till i have a cage. Thanks guys..

In most of the rollovers I've seen, the fiberglass top is the only part of the body that holds up. It's wheeling with no top and passengers in the back seat that I won't do.

This is a good reminder to buy a bender...
