In the market for another K5 or truck. Need advice.

"Just needs X..."

"Easy to get ig finished..."

Both are bullsh!t. If "X" was all it needed, and it was that easy why didn't the seller do that and sell it for twice as much? Don't buy anyone's half finished, and half assed nightmare. You will end up stripping it way further down just to undo all the butchery...then have to build it back up properly.

The biggest selling point for me with the 90 I just bought was that it was stock. Body had some ugly rust and dents, but it hadn't ever been messed with.

Find something stock, or nearly stock and go from there. More importantly find something that is currently complete and driveable. Current insurance and tags are a big bonus.

Y'all won't believe it. I've been trying to contact the guy that bought my Jimmy 2 years ago, and he just called me back wanting to sell it for $1500!!

Going to look at it now, from what it sounds like the 700R4 is locked up currently. We'll have to see what I can find out. He says he's put another motor in it and rear end since he's had it. And the drivers door window is gone, both windows in the top are cracked. :(

But for $1500, I'll gladly take my baby back and get to work on her again! :D
For those who don't remember why I got rid of it, all I had was that, and a nearly full race Talon TSi AWD, and I got a job that was going to require me to drive 40 miles each way everyday. Basically I needed something more reliable, so I sold the Jimmy and got a Cherokee.

But now I work close by, I have a house, garage, the car, an '05 Silverado, and now I'll have my Jimmy back.

I'll let you guys know what I find out about it.

Welp, I got good news and bad news.

I went to look at my old Jimmy and all I could do was :( Poor thing is nearly rotted away by now. The guy I sold it to daily drove it for 2 years and just never took care of it.

Something was wrong with the transmission, it wouldn't move forward or backward unless you feathered the throttle lightly. It was sad to see it in such condition. Drivers window broke out, both top windows shattered. Body damage all over. And the rust, my god the rust. When I had it, it had a rust spot above each rear tire, and rust on the rockers.

Now, it pretty much both bedsides are ruined, and both rockers are basically gone. The only thing it still had in good shape was my uncracked dash pad. I almost offered to buy just that out of it.

So anyway, I went to look at the one I originally posted about. This thing is rock solid. I was amazed, I searched it high and low, could not find one spot of rust. Not even surface rust. The only thing wrong with the entire truck is that none of the blinkers work. But that's no big deal right?

The tires are 315s and it has 4" lift springs all around, rides like a log wagon, but that's expected with Pro Comp lift springs all the way around. Not a single dent or ding on the body at all. Both bumpers are somewhat bent up, but once again, no biggy.

Also, the interior is rough, dash is cracked, door panels are torn up, seats are rough. But that's all easy stuff to fix, and cheap at all the local junkyards around here.

So I offered him $2K and he countered with $2200. I'm supposed to go pick it up tomorrow afternoon. Pretty happy with my decision (I think)? Even though I still miss my old one, I just don't feel like dealing with all that again. I mean come on, to start all over again with NO rust at all? Hard to pass that up.

Sounds like a good decision.

Where'd he get his 6" and 37's numbers from?

The ad said 8" and 37s. I have no idea where he came up with that. I didn't want to approach the subject and have to prove him wrong when we just met.

I'm excited to get back in the game again, should be picking it up tomorrow afternoon. I just hope this thing will fit in my garage while I finish getting electric and gravel in the barn. Maybe if I let enough air out of the tires it'll fit.

There's a reason neither of my trucks are lifted high. Both fit under a 7' door jam.

I say ask him last thing, right as you're about to leave. Politely, just out of curiousity. He just might be clueless. I had a guy once tell me 285/75R16's were 35's...argued on here for a day with me, then said the reason he knew that were they were the same height as his BFG 35's...which at the time were known for being like 33" tall. No, he'd never measured his tires.

Well I sorta backed out of the deal. I don't have the cash at the moment, and can't seem to get any ATM to dish it out, and banks aren't open since it's Sunday. So the guy is aggravated as hell with me now. He told me to give him 2K cash and take it just to get rid of it, but I still couldn't come up with the money.

So I figure I'll give it a couple weeks, wait until I have all the cash in hand, and I'm not totally broke, then I'll call him back and hopefully pick it up if he hasn't sold it yet.

Ouch. Low limit on ATM withdrawls?

I sold a lawn tractor last fall and the folks who bought it had to drive all over town and still ended up scrapping together cash from family to pick it up that weekend.

Yeah, well the ATM I was at wouldn't let me withdraw what I needed, so I tried doing two smaller withdrawals. After the first withdrawal it gave me a "daily withdrawal limit reached" error when I tried again.

Anyway, the guy was pissed at me because I somewhat backed out. I'm still hoping to pick this thing up though. The fact that it's rust free just amazes me.

Hopefully it won't be too awkward when I call him back and tell him I wanna buy it in a few days...Hope he's not too pissed to wanna sell it to me anyway.

I'd just explain the situation and offer to put a payment down. You want it and will have the cash, so give him $500 as an apology and say you'll be back on x day.
