Hello from Wisconsin,
I'm in way over my head with my 84 k10 Scottsdale. I bought it after a moderate restoration was done over covid and was told it was a reliable daily driver. All inner and out panels, doors, hood, rockers, corners, tailgate and bed sides are new metal and freshly painted, cab is original, and the frame was blasted and also painted, I WAS NOT informed of a rat's nest of wires behind the poorly operating aftermarket gauges, and a weak 700r due to a poorly aligned TV cable and bracket on the dirty and gunked up Edelbrock 600 carb. the rebuilt sbc350 fired right up great and idled fantastic and even revved up (warm weather state) on video and went into 4x4 flawlessly on numerous videos sent. needless to say, I replaced the carb, had to replace the front wheel seals and bearings along with the lockouts, replace the distributor and all plugs and wires. the transfer case seal was replaced, and the dash replacement was purchased through Dakota digital. now it won't run for $hit, it backfires through the carb, and I don't know how to fix the dash wiring to accommodate the new dash. I wasn't planning on sticking and additional 5k into a 20k purchase nor do I know how to do this myself which is why I bought what I thought was a DAILY DRIVER. i cannot find anyone near 54401 Wausau Wisconsin to get this work accomplished. nobody knows how to work on older trucks?? Anyone knows of "The Guy" that can help a first-time square body owner out. i will gladly pay the going rate for this work. I'm out of options and skill maybe I'll sell it and take a loss and start over. please pass on my info and situation if you can help. Scott 715-551-5282 can send pics if wanted.

Sorry to hear about the troubles. I don’t know who we have around that area of the top of my head, but we have a member map somewhere. See if the search brings it up. I’ll look too.

Thats a frustrating situation. I have never found that old timer who was a carb wizard and could teach me. I would also bet there is a timing issue or some plug wires crossed, especially if it didn't backfire before replacing the distributor and wires. Check it twice, 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 for a 350, NOT 1-8-7-2-6-5-4-3 for an LS.
Don't give up on the truck yet, just spend some time gathering information. There are some good options for aftermarket fuel injection that run very well. I know that Edelbrock ProFlo has a plug in the harness that talks directly to Dakota digital gauges. This would eliminate some of the wiring problems you have in the dash. Its still a bunch of work and may be difficult depending on your skill level but its at least an option. Get a premium membership so you can post up some pictures. The information available here is worth the price. Most of the guys here like to do some trouble shooting, its kind of like working out a puzzle.

@campfire is he near you kinda?

Unfortunately not. I used to live a couple hours deeper into the woods from Wausau, but I'm not there anymore. There's a chance we'd head through Wausau on a camping trip someday, but I'm not sure when.

@Highpsi (Mike) was in Wausau, but I haven't seen him on here in a long time.
Ditto for @magik235 in Merrill.

@Blue85 is 3 hours North of there.
@broflow is a couple hours South.

Edit: @Highpsi's profile says he was on here yesterday. Try sending him a message and seeing if he responds.

Apparently you need to say. Why did you replace the carb? Why did you replace the distributor? What were the symptoms before that?

We can probably walk you through getting it running.

an estimate to have the carb cleaned was 175$, it was a bit sluggish. a new carb was 300$. and was a better option in my head. The distr ignition coil was bad and wouldnt start occasionally and randomly so i replaced the entire thing. the truck still runs, it just runs poorly and backfires therough the carb when gunned.

First of all - great looking truck. I'm planning to paint mine similar to that "one of these years".

*sigh* plastic crimp connectors and wire nuts :sign19:

We need video of when you bury that speedometer.
