not trying to re-invent the wheel but today i say a 3/4 dodge(80s model)on a rollback in front of me at a trafic light....i noticed the dodges have in boarded shacks factory....but the u bolts are under the axle...the spring plate has the shock mounts made onto it (cast onepiece)..

this made me think why couldnt you use the factory dodge spring plates on a 14 bolt...iirc the 60 rear and the 14 bolt have similar tube sizes...

have people done this and would it be acceptable???

Would prolly work all right but who wants the ends of their U bolts facing down?
you dont you just flip them over (so they are flat)and put them where your are...you would prolly have to put the pass side (off the dodge) on the driver side (on the chevy) and vice versa...

The dodge mounts I have seen, hang below the axle. That is why my stock mounts got ripped off the axle :doah:

they are cast onto the spring plates from what i saw...like i said if you flip them upside down then swap sides then it would work right???

you could just weld tabs to your stock plates or you could just weld some tabs on your axle anywhere you liked.:doah: or call Kert at DIY4x and have him make u-bolt plates that have a stud welded to them for mounting a shock.

you are over thinking things.

im not planning on doing it..im prolly ouboarding mine..it was just something i was thinking up for people who dont have a welder or that are building a truck on the cheap...kinda like the xj shaft...just cool to use parts from other vehicles to build your thats all...
