i have a 87 k5 and i am looking into the harwood induction hoods, they run about 450 but i was wondering if anyone had any pics of the hoods on any k5's so i can see what it looks like on the truck before i buy it and i am stuck with it, thanks

my friend has a BIG K10 with an induction hood, it look s pretty cool, but I don't know what they actually do. Personally I wouldn't spend 450 on a new hood unless the origonal was bad (kinked liek they do) pr it improves performance. Intersted to see what other replies you get.

Four wheel drive, four wheel expenses...

I would go with a steel cowl induction hood myself. You can pick them up for 400 bucks. Harwood hoods dont fit all that great. They also take alot of preping to make them smooth so you can paint them. They look awsome on blazers. It makes them look meaner. Go with the 2 inch cowl. Sorry no pics though.

What kind of induction hood are they? Actual air intake into the cleaner? I cut holes and welded some homemade cowl ducts on mine. My reasoning was to let out some of the hot air and help with the cooling. My air intake is thru the snorkel so dont need them for air.
Pics in the readers rigs under Thumper.

theres a pic of the cowl hood on Shawn Spicklers K5. Look in the links page and look for "Potent Rodent" in the K5 web sites at the bottom.

Ill see if I can put in a link.

Is there anyone who makes a functional cowl induction hood for Blazers? I like the way they look, but I have better things to spend $400 on then something that does nothing. Functionality before looks. If it doesn't impove my trucks performance in some way then it can wait.

You can make an air box for it and seal it to the hood w/ foam. Basicly its nothing more than a large lower air filter plate w/ foam that sticks up off it to make it seal to the hood. It wont "RAM" air down the carbs throat but it will seal it to the hood.

Besides the cowl hood lets the hot air out of the eng. compartment better, which in turn can help performance by the motor not sucking up hot air.

I would run the steel hood as my Harwood is not near as good as steel. Helps to lower under hood temps alot.

Goodmark makes steel cowl hoods. They look good and cowl size is about 2" if I remember correctly. I want to go with a 4" in steel, does anybody know of a company making a steel this size? Have only found fiberglass so far. Will be buying my hood in the next couple of months. Harwoods fit good compared to some of the other companies out there.

LMC has a steel cowl 2" for something like $299. I was looking somewhere that I found one for closer to $170, but these are steel so you won't get the light wieght of 'glass if that was your reason for wanting to go with glass. I'll try to find that other place here in the next couple of days and let you know. Not promising anything.SORRY

U.S. Body has an online catalog @ www.usbody.com that lists cowl induction hoods in fiberglass and steel. As I remember, the fiberglass hood is available with a 2" and a 4" cowl. YearOne also has a steel cowl induction hood in their truck catalog. I don't have a catalog with me, but it seems the hood is around $400. The last time I looked, the YearOne catalog was free on their website (www.yearone.com).

I haven't seen the hoods from either company, so I can't vouch for the quality.
